Andrei Arshavin should be deported according to Zenit St Petersburg owner Valery Golubev, after comments made by the Russia captain regarding their exit from Euro 2012.
There was outrage after Russia lost 1-0 to Greece, knocking them out of the competition, and Arshavin didn't help matters by stating that: "If you have had high expectations for our team here, then it's your problem, not ours."
Golubev asked reporters: "How can a citizen of Russia treat the honour of his country like that?
"He should be deported."
Russia started the tournament with a brilliant 4-1 drubbing of the Czech Republic on the opening day, and many had tipped the Russians to be quiet underdogs, but they threw away a 1-0 lead against Poland before losing to Greece.
However the 31-year-old was apologetic and realised they should have gone further in the tournament.
Arshavin told reporters: "The result has disappointed us and, of course, all our fans. We understand that.
"As team captain, on behalf of our players and myself personally, I would like to apologise for our performance and the result that we had.
"It's not right to shy away [from criticism]. That's why I took this moment to say something on this subject. I will do it only once and will not talk about this any further."
