Yeah tbh I think the praise is OTT. I can understand the reason why they played that way (and given their resources, this was probably the only way they could get a point) but to act as if it's an art-form in itself is BS.

Im positive about the season and my reasons are actually due to the departures...the doubt needs to leave the dressing room, the negativity needs to leave the club...thats's RvP, Song, Arshavin, Theo and whoever else isnt fighting for the shirt. Wenger has finally decided that if you want out there is no point keeping you. This team will gel as PnG and others have said. September is a big month for us lets see how we fair through that...but right now....everything is fine
If we are limiting the squad to those who fight for the shirt the wage bill will be zero.

Funny thng is I know we here this so many times, but we really did lack sharpness yesterday. But i agree with Ach did not feel like a new season at all.

I don't think its just about gelling new players, although that is true to a certain extent. There's something about our style play that is just so boring, laboured, uninventive and one-dimensional. It pretty much changed when AW replaced a box to box monster like Viera for Cesc, and then dismantled the Invincibles and filled the team with small, technical players. We don't REALLY play beautiful football anymore, but a Barca-lite version with less intelligent movement and little of the cohesive teamwork off the ball.

We've been sussed out season after season. Everyone knows how to play against Arsenal, 10 men behind the ball, cigars in mouths watching the passing, break quickly and score on the counter or setpiece, cigars back in.

When it comes off it can be decent, but a lot of the times in recent years this pass-pass-pass thing is dull and easy to defend against. We need more fluidity and variation in our play, more imagination, the ability to mix it up, play possession to keep the ball when necessary, switch when necessary.

I here what your saying and have that same fear too. From what I saw, nobody had a real poor game. That's why I think it's too early to single out players and say so and so was wasteful, toothless or whatever. There are some minor adjustments we could make like playing two strikers up front and I still think Theo is more dangerous in and around the box rather than out deep and on the flanks, but other than that, we just have to wait and see. We could play the exact same team next week and come away with a comfortable win.

But I hear what you're saying about our style of play. But put it this way, if this squad suffers from the exact same issues we have over the past few seasons, then you know it's time for Wenger to call it a day. It's a fresh squad with more experience and better quality player. If we can't get the best out of this lot, then we might as well forget it. But I think Wenger has a few more ideas up his sleeve and I was glad to hear that he thought the 3 strikers up front didn't work, so maybe he is thinking of trying something new. But we will soon see.

I still think this team need to work out how each other plays and that will take time. RVP and Walcott used to have a totally shit understanding when playing together. They used to argue on the pitch all the time because of miscommunication. RVP would make erratic movements and scream for the ball even if it wasn't clear where he wanted it and Theo would deliver a crap ball or just go for goal himself. A season later, they sorted it out and became and effective duo.

Of course [that makes a difference too]. The formula didn't work with three strikers up front and we were not well balanced, we didn't create enough because they blocked our midfield. After that it was difficult for us. We need to be more creative in the final third.
Not sure what he has planned next.

^ Cazorla out wide, Sahin/Oxlade in middle, I suppose.
