Earlier this year the Transfer Price Index was used to show that a greater percentage of the average Premier League club is made up of transfers with each passing year, that contrary to Soccernomics’ assertion transfer costs do indeed correlate to success, and it demonstrated that an escalating squad and starting XI cost (in terms of transfer fees) is required to finish in the top of the Premier League Table. Without a doubt, the cost of fielding a competitive Premier League side in the long-term is escalating rapidly in terms of transfer fees and shows no sign of slowing down.
