30 million for that? Think man.
I can understand where you’re coming from to an extent. The RVP situation took an ugly turn and I was surprised by the reaction on here so it’s also surprising to hear people want Cesc back at the club. But that’s a side issue.

Not needing Cesc….I disagree with that. Our midfield was the weakest area this year and I think limited players like Pod, Giroud and Walcott would benefit greatly from Cesc’s service. If we splash £30m on a striker that’s unable to create many opportunities of himself, then we’d still experience the same problems. Cesc isn’t an attacking midfield player. He’s a deep laying playmaker and he’s more effective when conducting play from a deeper position. We don’t have that in the squad at the moment. Rosicky is the only player that can come in and inject pace into our play but he won’t start every game. Ramsey, Wilshere, Arteta, Cazorla…they can’t really play those roles and not up to the level we need. Cesc should be playing the Xavi role for us.

Only way we could play cesc as a deep-lying playmaker is if we get the mythical defensive midfield creature people were banging on about a couple of years ago who can do the work for two men. Press, hold, harry, tackle and an omipresence to die for. Flamini kinda did it for a season but look at him now, hes shot. That one season holding Cescs hand killed him. Its pie in the sky stuff.

The only realistic option is pushing cesc forward just to get him out of the way. spain, barca and us came to this conclusion. Why do you think they all did that even though its obvious he doesnt have the attibutes of a forward and looks more comfortable deeper?

Hes a flawed player with no position. Forget him. The only regret is we didnt get more for him (cos he forced his way out and backstabbed).

Cisc is a rare hybrid. Not many players can combine technical ability with being a full on GHEL.

He isn't vilified like RVC because he didn't do one at the first opportunity. He was here for a long time as the main guy, eventually the consistent failure of the team combined with the immense success of Barca was bound to lure him away. He's a Barca boy and everyone understood that, I don't feel like we were short changed by him.

It's time for him to come home because he's comfortably better than anyone we have in midfield with the exception of Cultzola.

You can't put the lack of pressing down to Cesc alone. None of our midfield players press aggressively and it's a team effort.

Cesc plays a more advanced role for Barca because Xavi and Inietsa are first choice players.

Cost and better offers combined with going backwards to a team that is now weaker than the one he left as well as Wenger with only one year left in his contract make his return very very unlikely imo.

But that's not true when you know there's extra cash coming in in the future. It's not as if a club like Arsenal is a poor credit risk. The investment required now is to bring us back to where we were a few seasons ago, then more investment is needed on top. Therefore, won't happen.
Yep, the sad thing is we all know nothing is going to be done about it. I'd be extremely surprised if we make any signings of note this summer.

Me too, but there are so many things preventing this from ever happening. He's more likely to go to United or City than here.

You heard it here first. If Cesc goes to Utd I will be very, very cross at him. By "very, very cross" I mean I'll say, Hmm, modern day players... Anyway, Bayern are showing the way (love them or loathe them) and Barca will have to respond. Daffodil tippy tappy that can be easily crushed by a well drilled team will have to go out the window so there's a role for Fabregas to play at Barca. He'll be a big hit over there in the coming seasons. Spanish skills with GHEL powers on top? Perfect for hitting back at the Germans. He won't be coming to us of course, because it just wouldn't make sense for him to bail now and also it would cost us money which makes the move impossible.
