He's under a lot of pressure, probably wanted a few easy games to get a few wins under his belt as he's got a big shadow hanging over him.
If I was him I'd have spent big on one or two top players rather than chasing players he's not going to get. As it is he has Ferguson's team and noone to integrate to create a team more in his image.

True but the start to the season is important to him, a few bad results and the pressure will really mount and perhaps players will begin having their doubts, they've worked under Ferguson a long time. That's why I think he needed to bring a few of his own players in, to mix it up a little bit.
If players don't already have their doubts they don't know Moyes too well. Baines and Fellaini don't want to follow him there. Rooney wants out. Utd needed to replace Fergie with a huge, huge name. David Fucking Moyes was not that name.

Saying that, Fergie was a bit special in getting frankly average players to play above themselves, at that level. Moyes did it with Everton, but not at the same level or the same pressure or needing the same consistency.
