Sorry. I should have been clearer in saying that I'm arguing from the standpoint of getting in proper players capable of strengthening us and making us a bit more competitive with the league's elite. Why should we be overly concerned about paying them wages close to, or in line with what they'd get at other clubs. Bear in mind that some of these other clubs are even smaller than Arsenal in size and balance sheet.

We really can't expect to have it both ways. We are either big club that are going to sign a few quality players expecting to pay near the going rate in transfers and wages, or we accept that we are just a pretentious and pathetic wannabe.

The whole point of moving stadium and then charging the highest ticket prices was to rake in money, lots of it. Odd thing is that now there seems to be no intention of spending it. AW can't complain about player wages as he's on 6-7m a year. If he feels so strongly about the wages perhaps he should take a pay cut. From the financial info available, Arsenal CAN afford to pay the wages being talked about they just refuse to for some daft reason. The irony of course being that if you did get quality players in, you'd compete for and likely win stuff which would then result in higher revenues.
