If anyone else had done it - especially to us - you would be saying it's fine and teams can bid when they like, which they can.
As for it being insulting, Wiki said his transfer fee to Newcastle was undisclosed but according to Sky Sports it was £5m.

How is £10m two years later insulting?

Because PSG and Monaco have changed the dynamic of the transfer market and although Wenger is using it as an excuse i think he is right, in the current environment a player worth 10m will cost a club 20m, a player like Falcao who for me is worth no more than 20-25m sells for 60million etc
For me Cabaye is not good enough for us anyway....clearly he is better than Ramsey and Arteta who we are playing in the centre of the park currently but we need someone far and away better.....and really i think we actually probably need two central midfielders....one with pace to win the ball back for us in our half of the pitch (where we should have bought Luis Gustavo) and one holding player who can feed the more creative players in the final third (Fellaini) with Cazorla playing just in front of those two behind the striker.
Then we have squad back up in Frimpong (not really good enough for us but probably can get to the level where he is adequate cover), and Wilshere contending with Fellaini for the other midfield spot....Arteta and Ramsey sold......and then i wake up in a pool of sweat.

Now I wouldn't 10 million is an insult for what is essentially their best player, what world do you live in? Yes he cost 5 million but that's when he was an unknown in France a bit different I'd say. Look what we paid for Gervinho and Vermaelen and Koscielny essentially nobodies, you can't expect to pay the same for a player from the PL who happens to be a clubs arguably best player.

We've been going around all summer putting in artificially low bids as well as strange bids, I said the £1 bid would p*ss Liverpool off and it did, look what happened with that. You go in for a player with a realistic bid, not a bid that's going to p*ss them off if you really want the player.

The whole market's completely bonkers anyway. I live in a world where Andy Carroll costs £35m. It's impossible to value anyone sensibly in a market like that. That said it is what it is and we need people who can work and negotiate effectively in that environment and land players, we clearly don't.

I'm not disagreeing about the cost of transfers, but it is what it is and £10 million for their best player when we pay that from nobodies from France and Belgium (a few years ago as well) is insulting these days.

You're never going to get anywhere with a bid less that £15 million IMO, they described our offer as derisory suggesting they find it insulting.

Cabaye is off to PSG. They offered 15 million for him yesterday & he favours them over us.

Can't blame him, so do Newcastle.

They're going to say that aren't they? They paid £5m for him 2 years ago and while he might not have been a superstar he was 25 (i.e., not a kid) and a regular for Lille who were the French Champions. It's impossible to value players these days as I've said.

Good, hopefully as a sign of good faith PSG can sell us Sakho for paving the way clear for them...let the reign of the white midgets be at an end!

No it's not, I'd say he's worth at least 15 million in today's market, Newcastle don't want to sell so may hold out for closer to 20, fact is though as usually we massively under bid, seen it too many times before for it to be a coincidence now.
