2010 world cup is when I really recognised this guy was top top notch, Real got him at a bargain price when they signed him then.

Ozil also signifies the return of the pacey counterattacking football I love.

A signing that even has Zimm buzzing with excitement.

They brought in £10mill in transfers out, even with God's wages there must be another £7mill saved on the wage bill. Double that up at the minimum to reflect length of contracts for players out. You could say they shaved £24mill over the coming 24 months. Less £42mill fees, for an investment of £18mill. Say £5mill is avoided in payments to the scummy, bastard, leech sons of whores HMRC, maybe even more. This could have cost them as little as £10mill-£15mill in rough terms. And how much do they think they'll get back in shirt and ticket sales alone? Plus I now give us a great chance of progressing in the CL. This was a nobrainer deal, if they hadn't done it they would have been mad. All very rough figures and it doesn't work as neatly as that, no doubt, but in principle we'd really have to fuck things up massively to lose on this deal.
I also think there's an element of sell on value involved. They've covered their arses in every way. Much smarter than envisaged, not a sign of incompetence there and I'll be the first to admit it. The Suarez deal would have ticked the same boxes. They could have done this sooner but they are infuriatingly efficient with the finances.
Now the question is whether this is the start of delivery on their promises or a temporary gesture that suited them as much as the fans. Has to be the former, doesn't it? They can't stop now surely?

is that factoring in a £30-37m commitment to his wages?
We EASILY signed the best player of this window, including all the Euro deals. I'd have this guy over Neymar any day. And as for BaleReal just got fucked heavily in the arse and a lot of their fans are not happy about it. That Bale carnival didn't go entirely according to plan yesterday, there were mutterings in the crowd.
That said, Bergkamp was the biggest deal I can remember. That deal put the club on a whole new level. This deal starts to bring us back to that level.
