what has been forgotten is the fact this is wenger's last year of his contract, which many - and perhaps growing into most in recent months - and hoped would be his last.

so the question is where does this leave the contract from both the directors point of view and the supporters? and wenger himself?
Yeah he's given fans hope again with this signing and beating spurs. I said elsewhere, no other team in 2013 has picked up more points then we have. Since spurs in march we have only lost to villa. He's doing something right clearly, but doubts still remain about the big games. At the moment, no new contract, but if by February we are still heavily competing in tournaments, maybe have some good signings amd team playing well then I feel he will probably deserve one but I'd hold offering it completely until end of season amd judge them

Ferguson was old as fuck and had health problems, everyone including RVP knew it was gonna happend within a few years. Cant compare that situation with a contract thats about to run out, especially when the club and the manager both wants to continue working together.

Still can't believe this is real.

Just how did we manage to get the world's most creative player here?

What did Wenger, and more importantly, Pods and Merts, tell him?

Time now Wenger get Suarez and Varano to come home. Do that and all will be forgiven.

You know that if Podolski was shown this, there is a 99.9% chance that he'll do this to Ozil's shirt on matchday.

A few years is a lil bit different than a solitary season, something RVP would not have been expecting at all. He probably thought in a couple years he'll head off for a big contract in Saudi or the US anyway, after collecting a few of Fergie's last trophies. It's perfectly logical to assume that Wenger signed Ozil for Arsenal and our future.

Fergie retiring has probably woken Wenger up to the fact he actually can retire, it will act as a form of inspiration that he can step away from his obsessiveness. You seem pretty sure he wants to stick around buy I wouldn't be so confident. He has been battered from all sides for a while now and we've seen it take its toll on him. He's not a young man anymore. I don't think there is any certainty that he will stay on past this season.

I still think this season will be his last.
