About 10pm I think.![]()
Nadal wins 6-4 7-6 (7-1) 6-2.
Obviously there's the possibility of another great final, but this US Open has been really underwhelming.
There's barely been a classic match, no drama (genuine or hyperbole-aided), the standard (apart from Nadal and Wawrinka) has been poor and the general second-class feel of Flushing Meadows has made it the least exciting Slam that I can remember.
I won't mention the women's singles.....
Anyway, well done to Nadal.
His form has been pretty awlsome. I can't see Djokovic beating him at the moment. The real number one will definitely be crowned either way though.
Looks like I'll miss the final then ffs.
But judging from MS's post above and me not watching any of the tournament so far, I guess it's a good thing.
Predictions for the ladies final?
Have to stick with my pick and go for a 6-4 2-6 7-5 Azarenka win.
Come on tennis, come on Mirnyi, come on Voltchkov and come on Hleb.
Hmm Azarenka to pub it 7-5 1-6 6-4.
Azarenka can't be as flakey on serve as she has been throughout the tournament otherwise she'll get annihilated. Here's hoping she saves tennis.
On the tournament as a whole, I don't think it has been that bad, I can't remember too many classic US Opens in recent times anyway, perhaps 2009 for the shock factor but otherwise, it has mainly been one or two great matches, maybe due to it being the last one in the season.
It could be that the era we've enjoyed is coming to an end. I think it's fair to say aside from Djokovic Nadal, the only really great matches this year in the Slams have come from lower ranked players being involved in them (Wawrinka - Djokovic or Wawrinka - Gasquet for instance) but that's a natural consequence of Federer/Nadal/Murray all bombing out early from certain tournaments or not even being in them at all in Nadal's case.
