I remember, that thing he would do while shielding the ball. Flick it up in the air where no one could get to it, Used to drive the opposing player nuts. Ah!" Dem were the days"

Carragher's full team for the Daily Mail:

    Goalkeeper: Peter Schmeichel
    Right-back: Pablo Zabaleta
    Centre-half: Vincent Kompany
    Centre-half: Nemanja Vidic
    Left-back: Patrice Evra
    Right-midfield: Cristiano Ronaldo
    Centre-midfield: Patrick Vieira
    Centre-midfield: Yaya Toure
    Left-midfield: David Silva
    Striker: Thierry Henry
    Striker: Didier Drogba

Notice how Bergkamp rarely makes these peer lists, but let our fans tell it hes the best player the club has ever seen

Good player for us but behind Henry, Vieira, Pires and arguably Campbell and RVP in the Wenger era. Didnt score enough goals as a forward to be taken overly seriously.

Im sorry but I just cant get over the numbers:

Appearances and goals (national league only)

Season Club Games Goals Strike rate
    2005-06 Arsenal 24 2 0.08
    2004-05 Arsenal 29 8 0.28
    2003-04 Arsenal 28 4 0.14
    2002-03 Arsenal 29 4 0.14
    2001-02 Arsenal 33 9 0.27
    2000-01 Arsenal 25 3 0.12
    1999-00 Arsenal 28 6 0.21

6 goals in 99-00? 3 (three) in 00-01? What in the world He was still in his peak years ffs. To put in in perspective, Ozil got 5 league goals last season and nobody gives a damn about him. Frightening tallys considering top midfielders get 15/20+

    Tbf Wenger agreed
Dennis Bergkamp has lifted the lid on the bust-ups he used to have with Arsene Wenger over stats during his final years at Arsenal.

The Dutchman, who scored 120 goals for the club in 423 games, admitted he didn’t always see eye-to-eye with the Gunners’ boss, particularly when it came to the Frenchman’s meticulous attention to stats.

Bergkamp, who spent 11 years in north London before retiring in 2006, was used less frequently during his final three seasons under Wenger, and admitted his advancing years didn’t mean he accepted his bit-part role any more gracefully.

In his autobiography, Stillness and Speed, he says: ‘I was too proud to just say: “Well, let me just play 20 games, I’ll be happy with that.” I can’t do that! So that was the clash. I wanted to play every game, of course.

Now: Ajax Assistant Manager Dennis Bergkamp (Picture: Getty Images)
‘And if I didn’t play I was angry with [Wenger] until I played and then it was OK. Sometimes we really fell out with each other.

‘He used statistics on me and one time I said to him: “Where in your statistics does it say that I changed the game with a killer pass?”

‘And he’d say: “You run less in the last 30 minutes and you’re more at risk of getting injured, and your pace is dropping.” That was his thing. “You’re dropping pace.” Which I was.

‘No problem. “But then again I’m the one who can make a difference for you, so…” and sometimes we fell out about that and he [Wenger] would say: “You think only of yourself.” So I was the bad one!’
Wenger showed him is goal numbers like "u srs? "

Bergkamp' book is the next I'll buy. The guy was a class act. He was getting less games, having bust ups with Wenger and they totally jerked him around with his contract but he stayed to retire with us. That stunt with the rolling contract was total bullshit.

Anyone who witnessed Dennis at his pomp. The way he could pluck the ball out of the air, control and pass is one sweet movement will have no doubt that he was one of the most talented players to ever play the game. Did Zidane score a lot of goals...No is the answer and Bergkamp was just as talented and scored more goals. He also scored probably the most fantastic goal I have ever seen live (on telly) in a WC, bettered only by Maradona`s mazy run through the entire England team. He also scored some pretty trick goals in the EPL too. A master of the game. BOBN you need to see a shrink. I will pay cos you need help.

If we go by stats alone, then Frank Lampard must be the best attacking mid, the world has ever seen
