Make 2mrw better than 2day
Aye, I agree with this.
I think it's quite telling that Wenger felt the need to poke a thinly veiled dig at the fan base, it just goes to show he absolutely refuses and has refused to take responsibility for the performance of the team.
I actually think he got it good off our fan base considering...if he was at any other big club in England or abroad he would have been hounded out seasons ago!!!
I think he just can't get over the fact the fans of the club he has grown to love have lost faith in him. Rightfully or wrongfully he is just hurt. Arsenal should pay for the best therapist in the land as a gesture of goodwill.
I agree, he did have it very good. It's only the last few seasons where patience finally ran out for everyone, I'd say after 15/16 it got personal and it was never the same again. That bogus 2nd place finish being thought of as something more was nonsense.
Prior to that he had enough good will and most people were still sentimental enough to persevere with him simply because we didn't know any different. This despite repeated mistakes, embarrassing defeats and pretty much zero in the way of progress. He had more opportunities to get it right than any manager could possibly dream of getting these days.

I don't think it's that at all. I believe he's always looked on the fans as a necessary evil at best. He's never shown much respect. Never given any credence to the idea fans might have a different opinion because he considers himself a master of the game and those looking on as too incompetent and unaware to have a valid opinion. He's the one who made all the substitutions, he's the one that has signed hundreds of players, we've done none of that so the possibility of us having a view on what has been going wrong can be (and has been) ignored. Our job is to pay, turn up and be "loyal" so (as he says himself) the image of Arsenal Football Club can be presented in the right light. His image, he means, of course. Dissenters are bad for the club. And whether he was bothered by the empty seats or just too arrogant to care, he still felt the need to downplay it all, explain it away, remind everyone that revenues were steady. Yes, we have their money so we couldn't give a shit if they turn up or not. That was the impression at least.
He never wanted to be loved - just obeyed. He never wanted fans to have faith in him, he wanted their unconditional loyalty. A throwback to old style tribalism before the money and the mercenaries arrived. But if you want a 60K stadium half filled with day-trippers and invisible corporateers then don't be surprised if the tribal loyalty is diluted.
