What a trashing, onwards to a 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford at the weekend

    Depressingly plausible.
As big a mess as Utd are, they're nowhere near as bad as PSV. No team has given us that much space to play all season.

I’m not even sure how to appraise that game. Shearer spewing Platitudes at us. But honestly I really don’t think we were that special tonight…..and I don’t mean that as a dig at our players, they worked hard and they were consummate professionals. But I don’t remember ever playing a team that incompetent….i mean in fairness they looked ok going forward at times, played some hard to deal with crosses, lots of pace, very direct etc.

But their defence and their goalkeeper? The fuck was that. We are the first team to score 7 goals away from home in UCL in knock out stages. Yeah there’s a reason for that, to get to the knock out stages you have to be able to play football.

Can’t believe how easy PSV made that for us but it was nice to see what’s left of the forward line fill their boots.

Probably Real Madrid in the next round which will be fun and what this competition is all about.

Just realised we beat Sheffield United (a team playing in red and white vertical stripes) by six goals a year ago today

    Similar standard of opponent tbh

I love HK, but I feel like I’d have to erase every comment I’ve ever made about the Chinese government before feeling comfortable going back there

    I was impressed.
I was on a ding ding with a colleague - English chap who works and lives there. I was asking him about the deal with HK and China and he was tight lipped.
He told me letter you have to be careful because you don't know who is listening!
It doesn't feel that oppressive when you're there but they clearly don't enjoy the freedoms we do
even if someone likes to pretend that we don't

I was there less than ten years ago, where it was a place for mainland Chinese to get away from the watchful eye of the CCP (notice there were a few same sex couples in the hotel I was staying, and that’s definitely not allowed in the peoples republic…I mean it’s technically legal there but it’s technically legal in Russia as well). That and it was a giant laundry for the Chinese to filter their dirty money through

But whilst previous leaders have taken a bit of a look the other way attitude to personal freedoms etc, Xi is probably the most authoritarian leader they’ve had since Mao (or Deng Xiaoping at the very least). So even in an autonomous region like Hong Kong the squeeze has been put on.

Not sure if it’s the same in Macau, I imagine the crime syndicates do enough terrorising there that Beijing probably feels it doesn’t need to step in.
