I had nothing better to do.
It was feeble, to say the least.
One moment of quality for Rice’s goal, brilliant ball to him and a good header.
    Otherwise it was poor.

saw his goal this morning, a very good ball as you say (from Madueke?) and a decent header

The ball in was from James, Madueke for the OG.

    Turkey 0-6 Spain.

    Merino hat-trick.

    He's definitely a striker.

The Arteta cult are now trying to use this to argue that Arteta didn’t stodge up the midfield and play for a draw at Anfield

People can't seem to differentiate from what players can do to what you ask them to do in a game.

They cannot tell me Merino was looking to get advanced in that game.

Haven't seen the highlights yet, but the fact he can do that (and we all knew he could do so before) is actually an indictment and definitely not some sort of validation of tactics applied.

He can score goals but he’s not what I’d call a capable midfielder for the premier league. He has zero pace or dribbling skill, his passing ability is mediocre

Well I do agree that he is a poor fit if your aim is to control the game mercilessly and bore opponents into submission with pointless possession and unnecessary flicks...but if one was actually interested in winning games by making the best of the opportunities you have, I'd rate a Merino over an Odegaard when it comes to finishing.

Creating those chances though is a valid question.

Exactly that, our problem is chance creation…with players like Pedri and Yamal in the side….Spain are going to create more chances, where as playing a plodder like Merino in midfield just constipates the midfield. At most his value might be to throw him on as an additional forward from the bench
