You have said that over and over again and I have responded over and over again as to why I see glimmers of hope that those patterns are changing. I'm not going to list those things again. If we're just going by the patterns of previous seasons then one of them has been a failure to maintain a consistent challenge. There have been seasons where we've gone off like a train only to collapse at the business end. So even if we'd won every game so far if you believe the patterns are just going to repeat then there would be no reason for optimism anyway. If the 'balance of evidence' is the last 10 years then that balance exists whatever results are so far this season.

Any fool knows you don't call the result of a season after the first game. But what you can do is recognise when the same problems keep cropping up season after season.
OK, but again you can't sensibly assess that after one game or even after 7. The West Ham game did burst the bubble of positivity which had been built up in the tail end of last season and in pre-season but some of the reactions on here were ridiculous over-reactions. Last season we lost any chance of the title before we really got going. This season the start has been somewhat stuttering but results have been OK. We're in touch. No-one has gone off like a train - even City's has now derailed somewhat. IMO we're good enough to mount a challenge, if we stay in touch then I trust this lot more than I would have a few years ago to finish the job. If we fail to mount a challenge this year then I agree Wenger should go.

I can't quite believe you've said that when that is EXACTLY what a lot of people have done to me. Globalgunner has done it just a few posts above.
My position is caricatured constantly - I think Wenger can do no wrong, we could lose 10-0 to Chelsea and I'd still defend Wenger (that's pretty much a direct quote from a PnG post) and
I've said Wenger should be sacked if we don't challenge but I'll assess that at the end of the season, not the start (another opinion which is obvious but has been repeatedly lampooned - mostly by you).
