I tend to think there will be a drop in the purchase of season tickets, but added to that a club that is leaving massive gaps in match day attendance even in big games like Chelsea, city, United and the NLD will be an embarrassment to sponsors. It's the negative attention that hurts, and Arsenal is an asset for Kroenke against which he can borrow money with favourable rates of interest for other business ventures. That's because it's a piece of prime sporting real estate but if the club is seen as in flux it fails to be as much of an asset and he's forced to act.
In that same time we will learn a great deal about Arsene Wenger, I still think this is a man who will want to jump before he is pushed. In all honesty I don't believe he will have wanted to create a rift with great sways of the fan base but as he sees it his first duty is to his employers.
