    Europa League is not a very good tournament. Effectively a prize for being 17th best. Though in the Carling Cup you have sides like Blackburn 'forfeiting' (their manager's not-so-wisely chosen words) the game.

    Yeah but like I say, doing shit it in affects your ability to get a favourable draw in the Champions League. And in Tottenham's case, getting back in to the Champions League is clearly their aim. I think Champions League drop out teams do help the quality of it - especially as it could be three English clubs this time. Plus there are teams like Atleti and Udinese in it currently - and those teams do care about it.

    Blackburn doing it is a bit stupid when you need to keep your job but it doesn't directly impinge on your other aims.

    The problem with the tournament, for me, isn't that it exists in the first place; it's more the structure of it and when the games take place.
