Vermaelen's pass was bad, the snail should have done better though and a better defender would have.

You are right though, I do think Mertersacker is average and I agree with Dixon when he says this guy isn't the answer.

Other than fouling Albrighton and getting sent off, cant see what else Mertesacker would have done.

Fact is, wasnt his fault. All down to Vermaelen. Mertesackers had a couple of shaky moments but overall hes done great and long may it continue.

Although Vermaelen did sell him short Mertersacker should maybe have done better, maybe a better defender would have. Vermaelen has been great recently though as well definitely our best defender this season.

Mertersacker is one of those players you know has an error in him, he doesn't seem the solid dependable defender, he is pretty slow and doesn't exactly think ahead of the game like Adams did for example.

I love Vermaelen about as much as a man can love another man, but the goal conceded was down to him.
