Did someone say that Keown was once stopped by Wenger from giving instructions to a player? Something about Wenger wanting the players to learn for themselves?

I think in a lot of cases we have players being led out to the sea to drawn.
Wenger asserted that pointing out a player's faults removed their ability to figure things out for themselves. Imagine if school teachers took that view? They'd teach the kids fuck all for fear of depriving them of the chance to hit the books by themselves. Nice job if it existed. Well it does exist at Arsenal. And this is the guy who is supposed to be the master as guiding careers. It's a farce, an obvious one, but the bloke in charge wants it that way and so farce is what we get.

At the risk of actually being serious. This was a guy who was able to nurture and get the best out of talent and now he’s completely useless at it. Makes me wonder if he actually bothers trying. In the days of Anelka there were other people at the club actually doing shit so was able to spend time getting the best out of him.

Of course you’re not going to get the next Anelka for 500k. But even when we’ve spent good money on potential recently, it’s been a total fuck up in the main.

It’s like he’s demanded that he takes control of everything so doesn’t have the time to do his own job properly anymore but too stupid and stubborn to delegate.

Don’t get me wrong he’s too far gone to be of any use to us even with a proper support structure in place. But does make you wonder if he’d have performed better if he didn’t take it upon himself to be Atlas when Dein, Edelman et al fucked off ten years ago.

It's such a flawed concept that won't work with young players and especially those struggling to find an answer. What does he actually teach them in that case?

Are you talking about his selfless desire to be overlord of all he surveys? This is what forms the foundation of the pro-Wenger, "He does soooooooo much for us...", rhetoric. As if it's a bonus rather than a curse.

He teaches them where the football section in the library is at.

Well Atlas was a selfish twat as well

Whilst most debate on the subject is anodyne because people who want Wenger to stay are either prisoners of their own fear or people who are on the make.

I don’t think most managers would want the level of responsibility Wenger has and I believe that if Wenger had wanted help to lighten the load even this useless board would have done so....so there’s no question of it being selfless. It’s a question of being a control freak, I’ve worked alongside enough micro managers to know it ends disastrously every time.

It’s more about saying the stupid sod has made a rod for his own back.
