Agree with that! Though having defenders who are not completely brain dead will help. From set pieces, the signings should help but in open play, I can still see us struggling... for starters, we should stop playing the high line that we usually play and also we should have our wingers track back or check their runs when the full backs are on.. just general defending 101 stuff which we seem to forget! This is all very well! But where the fuck are our nasri and Cesc replacements? Surely we cannot leave it at just these two signings? FFS! It seemed very positive yesterday with players being linked to us!

Arteta would be the absolute bare minimum type signing, but you have to laugh at the "hope" of getting it done before the deadline when The 20 have had 3 months to sort things out. Superb article that one:

Bye Bye Bremen! Per Mertesacker looks after five years at Werder a new challenge in the British Isles.

Some days it was even rumored, now it's perfect: Per Mertesacker changes with immediate effect to the English Premier League club Arsenal. He signed a contract until 2015. After the departure of defender Sami Nasri and Cesc Fabregas had the "Gunners", as Arsenal is also called, a big defensive problem. Coach Arsene Wenger saw and took action with Per Mertesacker his players desire to stabilize the defense. For Per Mertesacker to a long-cherished wish has come true. He never made a secret of the fact that most excites him the English league. is already in two weeks by return with his new club in a football stadium. On 13 September comes to Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League with Borussia Dortmund for the first group game.

Completely agree mate. We do need a top player in the CM position. Ramsey just doesnt cut it for me. As of now, Song, JW and Frimpong are the only ones. I'd love another addition ATLEAST if not two! I agree, but then none of our signings are our 1st choices, at this stage can we really sign those types of players and even if we could would we be willing to part with the cash needed.

I think we've reached the stage where we're just signing players to make do rather than to make us a force again.

Pissed an perplexed we watched Parker and Bellamy walk to other clubs. If we're rooting in the bargain bin then let's at least get some bargains. What does Arteta actually give us if he's injured for half the season? Why didn't we go for Hargreaves then?

What a nasty sting in the tail this is shaping up to be. A kick in the nuts to follow on from Sunday's calamity.

Wenger has fucekd it up big time this summer. He spent most of it dealing with Cesc and Nasri and both left. Then he had to offload Squid and Almunia and didn't when we lost 8-2 in Manchester he found out he has been needing players. Too fucking late.

Give Everton 30m for Arteta and Fellaini and be done with it tbh.

The club needs much more than that. It's not just the practical side of getting a decent signing in, it's the psychological angle and the statement of intent. What the fuck message are we giving out digging around in the waste bin for our rivals' cast-offs? And it's not just the transfers themselves. We were already a laughing stock before Sunday, now it's worse, opposition fans and managers are actually feeling sorry for us! And what about our board, and the manager and our scouts and medical staff and coaches and the list just goes on. We're fucking up everything right across the board. Spending a fraction of the amount raked in over all those years on zero activity in the transfer market was never going to be the solution but it would at least create a boundary (real or wishful thinking) between the shite that has been occurring and the perhaps something more positive to come. What do we get instead? And admission (finally, fucking, fucking, fucking, fucking, finally) that we need some experience in the team but no, fuck off, we may NOT have any quality in the team, that;s not allowed. The bare minimum is what we get.

I hope this Arteta, Benayoun shit is just a wind up or some sort of misdirection. But if not, what's really happened here? The cunts have kept the money again! Even after the worst humiliation we've ever witnessed and on the back of a degrading collapse last season, they;re still going to keep all the fucking money. Or made even simpler, somebody, the board, that manager or both, is calling us all a bunch of cunts. Thanks for your money - you cunts! Now fuck off and die. That's what they're saying to us.

Tipsychubbs
31-08-2011, 05:22 PM
I can also deal with Arteta as an experienced option while Wilshere and Ramsey continue to develop, but Benayoun, thats surely taking the mick.

I also agree that Fellaini is the one who we should be going for. Has that Veira like aura about him, can play CMF, DMF, AMF, it would be the sort of signing that would really boost the team.

An eyebrow raised, a furtive flick of the head - was it to signify the deal has died, or maybe it's an irritating fly buzzing through the electrically charged air? Back into the room, shoulders bunched, ready for one last round, all their reason and cunning and experience and ruthlessness marshalled for a push over the top, into the hail of objections and demands, steeling themselves for the onslaught and resolved, come what may, to emerge triumphant in their quest,...

This is fucking ridiculous, so the only midfielder we're getting is the loan signing of Benayoun? Fuck off Arsene, you've now consigned this club to midtable mediocrity. If we had signed Arteta along with another midfielder like M'Vila, I'd have said that was acceptable business given we'd have concluded those two signings on the last day of the window. But we can't even get Arteta, and rely on an injury prone has-been like Benayoun. Given that it's a loan signing, we're not even willing to make use of the transfer funds we received from the sales of Nasri and Cesc. That money is obviously going to feather the nests of our greedy board.

Wenger must leave in January.

Benayoun?

Underwhelming; on his day a very good player but that day wasn't often enough for Liverpool, so who knows how frequent it will be after pretty much a year out.

Seriously if we sign this cunt I am going to go fucking mental!

Arteta is one thing, but Benayoun!?

Fuck!

server too busy!
31-08-2011, 06:47 PM
Apparently Arteta failed to agree personal terms with us. FFS come on he surely was asking for £100k so wheres the problem? M'Vila and Martin or you can fuck off! RvP and Walcott to go next season?

Niall_Quinn
31-08-2011, 06:48 PM
Of course we haven't confirmed Benayoun yet, if that's all we can get then let's hope we can get him, if only to fill a spot when he's not injured. Plus in many ways a loan is better because we won't get stuck with him, fucking Diaby, Almunia, Bendtner, Wenger - still all on the books, can't get shot of them.

Doesn't surprise me, he was on 75K per week at Everton apparently. Sad thing is it truly shows how far we've fallen when players aren't prepared to move heaven and earth to join us from mid table sides, I would assume we would have at least matched his salary, saying that knowing Arsenal anything is possible.

I have been a staunch supporter of wenger but fuck me this takes the fucking biccy! how can anyone justify losing nasri and cesc and getting in the crap we have and then going for benayoun on loan? larfing stock of europe we are now!

Gotta pay the bills I guess.

It's fine, you can laugh your bollocks off. We've already gone through the 666 layers of torment and ended up in hell, it would be a blessed relief to be pissed on from a height.

1842: News now of Gary Cahill, but from a Bolton perspective. BBC Sport's Alistair Magowan says: "A very good Bolton source tells me he thinks Gary Cahill is unlikely to leave and that Man City were in talks with him at one stage. That deal fell through because the clubs couldn't agree on players going the other way. Source also believes Arsenal could have bought Cahill for £10m-£12m and that the defender had been left frustrated by whole episode."

I don't think I've felt more furious with the club in any of the 15 years I've supported it. I may literally cut up my silver membership cards ship if it ends up this way.

Thats you problem if you believed we would sign anyone super or who you would like to sign. Don't mean it in a rude way, but its was unrealistic we get any big names today tbh.

I think these players should do a job till jan then buy from there tbh. Were not winning the league or finishing 4th so no need go crazy today when there is a window in Jan.

you do realise that we the fans are to blame, for six years we have been too patient and all we do now is bitch and moan.

This club is a disgrace for the way it treats it's supporters.....because it knows we will still go to games and give them the gate receipts

If we had stopped doing that a while ago, left the stadium half empty than they might have reconsider, but if they are raking the money in from us what do they care what we think?

Mass Demonstrations and Mass Exodus..

When they feel the pinch, and want to know what the fans want

Wenger Out, New Transfers....flexible wage structure.

they can't surely be using all this money to go back into paying debts when they must be making the money weekly to pay the loans and interest...so why the lack of investment back into the company (ie, the quality of the team) is baffling..

Apparently the black scarf movement are planning a protest at the Swansea game. Hopefully a lot of fans support them because what they're doing is very important.

If the board is not complicit in this comical disaster of a transfer window then they must sack Wenger. If they do not sack Wenger then surely they are complicit? It seems reasonable to draw this conclusion.
