agreed to an extent, but we're talking about players of the ilk of a Suarez here......not gonna get that calibre for 20/25 mil.

    Says who?

Soldado has outscored Higuan for the past 3 years in a lesser side and Spurs got him for a good price. Albeit his release clause was paid but there are players out there if you look hard enough. Yes if you want a marquee name then you have to pay big bucks, but as great as a marquee name would be, fundamentally we just need an efficient and competent striker. I don't care how much we pay as long as we get someone of sufficient quality.

    We got Sanogo for free.

I reckon that disproves your point entirely.

They are not many strikers , world class ones, like we need who will go for anything less then 30 million. The players we need will be expensive. Soldado has gone for 26 million, and he has gone to spurs. You have to ask why none of the top four clubs looked at him and then realise the level of stickers we need and how much they will cost
A few years ago when we had a relatively strong squad, spending that sort of money on a player would have more practicality than it does in our current situation. We have neglected the team for so long, we need a few quality players.

Buying a world class striker and putting him in a mediocre side is pointless. For example, Sol Campbell was a world class defender and he flourished in our side. He was also a world class defender playing for Tottenham, but he was continually left exposed by his poor quality teammates.

We need to rebuild. Spending £50m+ on one player - with an unvelieveably patchy discipilnary record is no way to go about it - not that we intend to anyway.

For just over £50m we could possibly have had Higuain and Fellaini - with £20m left in our 'warchest'. Had we a coherent strategy that involved spending those amounts, we'd be in pretty good shape today.

    Spot on.

Added to that, the scouts need to be equipped with a clear strategy. Our transfer record over the last decade indicates there is none - as far as acquisitions are concerned.

I agree with the concept that if you have a strong squad you can look to add one top top player to make it a bit stronger, however if like us your squad isn't that good you need to spend the money on bringing the level up across the team, before considering massive one off signings.

We had RVP the season before and as good as he was we still weren't great, the team isn't that different from then.

    He also didn't want Suarez.

Again, it's really hard for us to be ceratin of that. Suarez cost Liverpool £22m. Wenger could easily find someone with raw talent that's ready now but also has the potential to be one of the world's best. You only pay £50m if your involved in a bidding war or the clubs that reluctant to sell.

    Agreed.

We may differ on views as to where to spend that money, but I'd prefer to add a few more "Cazorlas" to the team (very good players at a decent price).

If we had bought two or three in early doors, then yes, Suarez would be the cherry on top of a very good transfer window...er...cake.

But as we've done jack shit. Pissed everyone off. And pulled our pants down in public, I would say that putting all of our eggs in one 50m pound basket, is fucking idiotic. Especially give the racist bastard's tendancies to be a dick.
