    That's not criticising fans who do use social media or are a bit more militant in their attitude but they are more likely to be part of the smaller travelling contingent.
    I don’t think it’s a class thing, there just isn’t enough outrage to get people motivated to do something about it. Any protest needs a real anger at its base – Aston Villa fans are prime example in terms of football and when you look at any other protest, be it political or social, people are galvanised to the street by a certain level of fury aimed at their target. It’s far easier to get angry online when the consequences are next to nothing.

    What we have at the stadium are fans who disconnect from the nonsense we all talk about online, treating the game as an escape from the normal routines of life. We can look at the Man Utd fans as another example. They haven’t have several years of the same experience but have suffered a heavy drop in quality and ability to achieve their ambitions but they are still behind the team. But look online and you’d see a completely different perspective in some parts.
