Why aren't we in for M'Vila and Yanga-Mbiwa, both cheap and want to come to us and would provide real competition. If we got those 2, all we need is Villa and LB and we're good to go.

Come on Arsene stop WUMing

The most worrying thing is we aren't even getting linked with people...generally that means nothing is happening, gone are the days where Arsene could keep things under wraps with all the social media around these days.

They could be shit like all of our recent signings from the French league.

Barca ain't selling Villa so no point dreaming about that.

I agree there is no point in signing decent French players. Or any decent player of any nationality.

We have lots of decent players.

This team does not require more decent players.

The only way we will significantly improve is by buying world class players as we have zero world class players (Jack should become world class though).

We need an RVP, Aguero, Silva etc etc. We need to spunk £30m+ on one player and we need several of these £30m players. You cannot expect to compete with Manure/Chelsea and City by buying decent French players when Manure/Chelsea/City have several £30m+ players in their team. It's impossible.

can't help but feel that Wenger feels he has been burnt in the french transfer market with players like Chamakh who scored regularly for Bordeaux but cannot reproduce the same in England, that's why i think he's cool on Yann M'Villa (the only other club remotely interested in him is QPR speaks volumes as well).
It's a problem of his own making, it's clear we can probably afford the transfer fees for a lot of the players we on this board think we should be going after it's just their wages we can't afford (and sending the dross out on loan doesn't solve that particular problem as neither Hamburg or West Ham are likely to be paying Djourou and Chamakh's respective wages).

Chamakh scored 76 goals in 301 games for Boredeaux he was hardly a regular scorer, I saw him many times before he signed and he always looked very average, you can't base you decisions on the fact you signed someone average and he turned out to be average for you.

Sign quality, you get what you pay for at the end of the day, it's true that the French players aren't that great at the moment, there's not a lot of quality out there, unlike 15 years ago.

Experience of what? We've got lots of experienced players now, it's not like a few years ago. None have experience of winning anything but they're mid to late 20's and have thousands of games between them.

We desperately need quality IMO. A few years ago with Cesc and co we had the quality and not the experience. Now I think it's the other way round.

as in proven players with proven experience. not another kid who still has to make his mark whilst we wait for him to bed down into the league etc etc. we have ox for that, he'll do. fuck zaha and any other little prick that we may be interested in.

I'd take a 16yr old Fabregas right now over a 32yr old Arteta that's for sure.

Reports in France this evening suggest Everton are closing in on the signing of Toulouse midfielder Etienne Capoue.

Sud Ouest have revealed in the last few minutes that Capoue will undertake a medical with Everton in the next couple of days.

The French international (4 caps) is set for the Premier League with Everton and a transfer fee has been agreed with Toulouse for between 10 and 12 million euros.

Whilst Everton fans will welcome an expensive and glamorous signing, the deal will be bitter sweet as the suggestions in France are that Capoue has been brought in to replace Marouane Fellaini.

L’Equipe said last week that Fellaini would join Chelsea during this transfer window and it appears Everton boss David Moyes has brought in Capoue to cover the loss of the afro-haird Belgian.

Capoue is rated as one of the best players to have appeared for Toulouse in the last 20 years and undoubtedly has the physical attributes to succeed in the Premeir League.

The 24-year-old midfielder has played 18 times for Toulouse in 2012/2013, scoring three goals and picked up four yellow cards.

Come January, they get in a dodgy, twitchy ****, allows him to throw money at players looking for an easy 5 months on big wages that will fuck off when they are relegated. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJBsI7RAuvkDelboy Rednapp is up to his old tricks again taking advantage of a Novice football owner and somehow peursading him to release over 15 mill to sign 2 players on huge contracts for a team destined for the Championship, they were better off staying with Mrs Doubtfire. I think Arry Trotter is a real wheeler dealer and knows the system so well he pratically owns the transfer windows. Silly busines for QPR, they already have 50 million players on silly contracts which are simply unstainable for a crap ground that barely holds 15 000.

I love it when he say he's no wheeler dealer but a football manager!

That's the plan. All you left out was the bit about twitch claiming they were on the verge of Euro qualification if only it hadn't been for the shitty owners he used to stuff Rosie. The man's a grade one crook and how he's allowed to be involved in football is a mystery is obvious.

Great news boys, we've finally got him:

Appi to Be a Gunner

Stephen Appiah is set to end speculation by joining Arsenal, according to reports. The Ghana midfielder had been monitored by Arsene Wenger after he identified him as the man to replace Alex Song and turn around the Gunners fortunes in the fight for a Champions League spot.

Wenger is reportedly finally set to his get man after the Ghanaian agreed to sign for the North London outfit in a 3 year deal worth a reported £70,000 a week.

Guessing one more season and he's gone. That or he's going to be here until he's 99. :(

You have to question their quality when no big clubs want to sign them.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: this team doesn't need to buy more good players, we have a fuck load of them. What this team needs to improve is great players, £30m players. This is where I agree with Wenger that there's no point in just buying decent players, we need super super quality. We need an Aguero, RVP, Silva etc etc

Where I disagree with Wenger is on his definition of super quality!!

If I were Wenger I'd be trying to get rat face Modric who's not setting the world alight at Real. Or try and get Cesc on loan who's not playing every game at Barca. If we're tying to get Villa this is a good sign (but of course we wont get him). They're the quality of players we should be going after not Remy who cant get a game at Marseille where Joey Barton is considered their best player!

I actually think it would be worth going after Berbatov! He's hardly known for his loyalty and could force a move from Fulham given that they're doing shit.

I'd love to see him up front with Walcott. It would be like a shitter version of Bergkamp/Henry.

I wish Wenger had gone for him in the summer!!!! I'd love to have seen what he'd of been like playing for us.

Does seem a bit odd that no decent club has taken a punt on him. If he's got quality but a bad attitude surely moving to a big club will go some way to fix it? At £7m it seems worth the risk seeing as we don't have a DM in the squad. I'd rather have quality and bad attitude than the other way round.

Cantona had a bad attitude before he went to Utd and he turned out ok. Lots of players have bad attitudes. John Terry is vermin but he is/was a bloody good defender.

Be interesting to see how M'Vila turns out. If he's a world beater serious questions will need to be asked of Wenger.

So Kos banned for the next 3 games and having a pretty crap season. Djourou out on loan. Squillacci needs to disappear which leaves us with only 2 CBs which are unlikely to stay fit for the whole season - so I am hoping we sign a CB in the shape of this guy http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/articles/385151/20120917/arsenal-montpellier-champions-league-mapou-yanga-mbiwa.htm
If Szez gets injured then surely now is a good time to blood in a keeper too..my first choice would have been Begovic had he not just signed on for another 5 years with those rugby players but I reckon a good bid could be agreed on. 2nd choice Vorm. For me, Szez still has a lot to learn and his kicking is so suspect that it makes me doubt whether he will ever be able to rectify it.
Luke Shaw would have been a good addition too...but looked like he signed a contract extension at Southampton.

As for Cavani - not sure about that rumor
But it would be nice to get one over on Man U finally... and get Zaha - he looks a great prospect and we need some good competition for places.

Yeah we have a few players that are 'fine' maybe that's our problem. He's definitely underperformed in comparison to last season. Szez is 'fine' too but a better keeper could make more of a difference particularly when it comes to delivery. At best he needs some competition.

So there I was not wanting to go to sleep incase I missed something and here I am, having read the thread, wishing I hadnt woken up.

The Cavani rumour is truely smoking but seriously has an odour about it. . .as much as we need goals, I cant help feeling that if we were to spunk that amount of money we should do it on tge likes of Felliani, a player who can cintribute all over the pitch, goals, assists and defence and while we are in that neck of the woods, we could pick up Baines. I like Gibbs but he is a maverick who cant defend, we could also find ourselves short at CB and even though I rate Kos he is not having a great season. The Montpellier capt would be fine but I wouldnt mind us going for a less graceful option, say for example Distin, a player who would kick lumps out of RvP rather than give him the keys to the house, just because we used to get on with the guy. . .too nany pussies and not enough balls

So no Cavani then.

He would cost £30mill+ so there was never any Cavani. Have a root around the bottom of the bargain bucket, check that city and the chavs or the hammers or crewe alexandria aren't interested, see if there is a sneaky clause in the player's contract that allows him to go on the cheap, make sure the rumour has not appeared in the press, make sure wenger has never mentioned the name - you now have our list of prospective targets.

It did always surprise me that Barca didn't ever go after (ie: tap up) Reina when he was on top form, since he was a Barca youngling.

He has played well recently, so it would be harsh to say he is still throwing the ball in as it seemed like he was doing for a while, but I wouldn't necessarily rule them out going for him now. Unless they want someone young (like a De Gea) in which case they'll probably crap out another one from La Masia.
