Considering it's World Cup year and Cavani and Forlan play for Uruguay, I reckon Suarez will have to give in sometime if he wants to play.

Once the transfer window closes, he's got nowhere to go with this.

Özim
11-08-2013, 10:51 PM
Liverpool will keep him another year then sell him next summer, he'll have to play for them if he wants to feature in the World Cup then if he performs there his value will remain and demand will be high (he'll know he's in the shop window as well), there will no doubt be a few big clubs sniffing around then.

He's picked a bad season to kick up a fuss, there's only going to be one winner in this and it won't be him.

course he will. rogers is full of shit. say the right things to the fans to keep ingratiating yourself but when push comes to shove and the season starts and suarez ban ends, he'll be in the team straight away - providing he's still there. they need him more. they have absolutely no chance in any form of hell of finishing higher without him.

Seriously the more i read about Rodgers in the media, the more i believe he actually promised Suarez last year that he could move to a CL club if they didnt get CL themself. The guy is talking so much crap and lies about a bunch of stuff, said yesterday there is no truth about agger/barca connection, today his agent confirmed that barca actually did bid for Agger...

I think he meant "there's nothing in it" as in, we rejected the bid and don't want to sell him, rather than it didn't happen in the first place. He didn't flat out say there was no truth anyway.

Yep, I think so too.

He’ll have to back down on the Suarez case. If Liverpool struggle and get off to a bad start, he’ll look to Suarez when the pressure is on for results.

Another day and another statement from Rodgers. This guy sure does like the sound of his own voice doesn't he.

'It is something that we have to do everything we can to fix,' the Liverpool manager told the club’s official website.
'If we have got to sit and wait, then so be it. But this is a club that has got great values, and we hope that the situation can be resolved amicably, and I am sure it will be.'

He said: 'It doesn’t matter who you are, if they’re not pulling their weight then they are letting down the club, the city and everyone who has stood by them.

'So until I get that assurance that we are going to get nothing but 100 per cent commitment, then there will be no solution.
'There has been a lot said and a lot reported, and we have made a stance, as a club and as a manager, of the commitment and the standards required.

'If you don’t have that commitment and those standards then you won’t play. It’s as simple as that.
'There’s no problem between me and him, it is quite calm. But obviously I have got to respect the club and the team.'

Rodgers keeps on digging a hole because Suarez can just tell him to stick it up his arse and then pick himself for the team if he fancies. Rodgers won't stop him playing once the ban is up. It's right they should be putting their foot down with a player who has signed a contract and still expects to be paid. But it's very dumb to be washing all of this in public. Keep it quiet and deal with it internally.

I'm surprised such a classy club like Liverpool with its world famous values would want such a toad playing for them. I guess it's because he's a little bit great player.

I think this is the first sensible thing Stan Collymore has said, ever:

Luis Suarez is accused of showing “total disrespect” towards Liverpool by boss Brendan Rodgers – but I am not convinced, writes The Sunday People's Stan Collymore.

Suarez is adamant he was given a promise that he could leave Anfield and I have been in enough situations like that to know he could be telling the truth.

Fans are often left in the dark about what happens behind closed doors but the insight I have of being involved in record transfers prevents me from jumping to conclusions.

Some Liverpool fans have labelled Suarez a liar over the promises made to him.

But it is important to *realise these gentlemen’s agreements DO exist.

It is possible that Rodgers or managing *director Ian Ayre said to Luis or his agent that if he had a good season and Liverpool did not qualify for the Champions League then he could leave.

I really don’t think this is about Suarez being disloyal. I think it’s more a case of him *feeling messed around by the club – and deciding to mess them around in return.

Liverpool are right to feel hard done by after looking after him so well but Suarez got this message in his head from somewhere, he has not made it up.

I am loath to say he is greedy and everything he stands for is wrong. I’ve been in situations as a player where you want to test yourself against the best.

After two good seasons at *Nottingham Forest I knew I’d gone as far as I could and the next level for me was to join Liverpool.

For Suarez the next level is the Champions League, so I get why he wants to move.

A major problem in football is that contracts do not seem to be worth anything.

When I signed for three or four years I realised if I was not playing well they might want to sell me and I knew if I did well another club might buy me.

But otherwise, those terms would stand for the duration of my stay.

I never got into a scenario where I thought ‘If I do well this season I’ll knock their door down and renegotiate my contract’.

Because what if it happens the other way? If you have a rubbish campaign do you then knock on the gaffer’s door and say: “I think you need to cut my wages.”?

Now, players monitor their *personal situation on almost a daily basis to see if they can get a better deal.

That’s killing the game *because it is making fans feel more *disillusioned by scenarios like the one being played out on Merseyside.

Whatever happens now, Suarez needs to leave – and Liverpool need to get as close to £50million for him as they can.

I genuinely believe that after all that has gone on, Suarez will be of little use to the club now.

And after all the hassle and aggro of the last couiple of years, the least they deserve is to bank a *decent sum.

If Arsenal want him that badly they will pay it.

Yes. But we were never really after him anyway.

Anyway, it's a climb down from Suarez (if the Mirror of all things is to be believed) but he doesn't really have a choice. "Support of the fans" - they have hardly supported him through this farce so more of a case of trying to calm the waters. He probably will sign a new contract, one which has a clear buy out clause rather than all this 'gentlemens agreement' bollox.

When all is said and done, we really are no weaker than we were last season. Squads been shit for a while now and at least we have seen a fair amount of dross leave the place before they have had a chance to inflict more damage.

Amazing how after all that, the scousers may offer a new contract. The contracts that are out there, are toilet paper. Arsenal were never really serious, that bid of a pound over 40M was a joke. Trotting out the great fans line is a bit low but I don't expect anything less from a moron footballer. He'd be on strike if a decent club were in for him. Liverpool got lucky that only our pile of wank club wanted him.

He's also signing a new contract according to reports, one with a distinct and clear release clause.

But Liverpool will bump up his salary by 30-40k , and in doing so that release clause may be alot higher than £40m as before. It'd be funny if they miss out on champions league, and no team wants to pay that release clause...

But if they keep Suarez and along with Coutinho (he's their best player apart from Suarez tbf) , I can see them getting ahead of us.

The "clause" was obviously a bust so we would have already upped the bid if we were in the least bit serious. There's no real bid here, just a giant distraction. I would guess it was done to send a message that Arsenal are back on the big money scene. Good for investors, share prices, sponsorship negotiations and all the important stuff that football has become.

The way we stormed out of the Higuain deal when the player wanted to come here and a little bump on the fee would have done the trick showed we haven't been serious in the market all summer. In fact most of our "dealings" seem to have been created by the media, when you looked at the confirmed actions we have taken there's hardly anything there.

There is no movement in the market as there is a lot of money and not many players.

ollie you're getting annoyed. why the change in attitude?

the simple reason really. i 100% bought into what gazidis/wenger said after the newcastle game and now look like a right stupid twat.

all summer, i believed that we would spend money, and get it done early. i would have no problems with teh suarez saga for example dragging out to deadline day, if we signed some players like gustavo before the new season starts. that way you could see we meant buisness by getting in some good players, getting it done early, and it allows a bit more freedom for the club. the fans are happy as some signings have been made and someone like gustavo would have been great, and we can see they are working hard on suarez, but they've also got other things done. no one would mind that.

i spent all summer believing we would spend money, that there was no chance of first day of the season arrviing and us having not spent a single quid. but its not the lack of spending that annoys me as such, if we bid 30m for higauin, and city came in with 60m for instance, there isnt much you can do, its the other reasons that have pissed me off. going from higuain to get suarez and fucking that one up. not paying more then 14 million for gustavo despite him being a player that we clearly need. the talk from the board, especially gazidis of we will spend big, we will get world class players in and then no one comes in.

but i think the real reason ive changed in attitude is because i believe this squad is good enough to win trophies and really challenge with 2-4 top quality additions. and the club have failed to do that. i dont care about trophies, all i care about is the club doing their best, and that means trying to sign players, backing players on the pitch with quailty signings, giving the fans hope, everyone trying their best to make Arsenal a better club, and they've failed.

i spent all summer defending them, and now look like a twat, because they've done what they always do. scrape 4th place, lie to us to get tickets sold/renewed, fuck about with stupid bids, sign an unknown kid. im fed up with it

McNamara That Ghost...

Brendan Rodgers fears Luis Suárez's efforts to force a move from Liverpool could "sabotage" the club's start to the Premier League season. The Liverpool manager reached tipping point in the Suárez transfer saga on Thursday and announced he will not answer further questions about the errant forward until late September, when the 26-year-old will have served a 10-match suspension for biting Branislav Ivanovic.

Relations between Rodgers and Suárez remain strained after the striker accused the manager of breaking promises over his future and was ordered to train away from the first-team squad as a consequence. They are due to discuss the impasse on Friday when Suárez returns to training from international duty with Uruguay in Japan.

Rodgers wants clarification from Suárez about his intentions following conflicting reports over his desire to stay at Liverpool while away in Japan. Publicly, however, the Liverpool manager claims there is nothing to add to the club's consistent stance that Suárez is not for sale, and that he cannot allow one disaffected striker to jeopardise the team's ambition of Champions League qualification this season.

"There's too much good work gone on here for it to be overtaken by anything else," said Rodgers before the vow of silence came into force. "The players have worked so hard, their concentration has been brilliant and we are all very determined this year. I can't let anything detract from that. Nothing can sabotage what we are trying to do. I don't really want to go on about it. It's just something we cannot afford to happen."

Suárez has denied reports that he intends to stay at Liverpool, a message that has not been relayed to his club, and has not given up on joining a team in the Champions League. Arsenal, who face a play-off against Fenerbahce, have had a £40,000,001 bid rejected and remain the only club to make an offer. But Liverpool are hopeful there is a growing acceptance within the Suárez camp that he will not be leaving Anfield this summer and that his various attempts to agitate for a transfer has not weakened their resolve.

Announcing his Suárez hiatus, Rodgers said: "It is very simple on Luis. So much has been written and said about Luis over the last few months but, from our perspective, there has been a standpoint within the club about where it's at and that hasn't changed. What I want to concentrate on is the players who are available for this weekend's game [at home to Stoke City] so I won't be speaking any more about Luis Suárez until he's available. Out of respect for the players who have worked so hard over the course of these last few months I don't want to answer any more on Luis Suárez.

"There's nothing to be said that hasn't already been said. I'm sure people are fed up listening and reading about it. My only concentration is the players who are available. They've worked tirelessly and purely out of respect for them and the work that has gone on, I only want to talk about them."

Rodgers was prepared to discuss Stewart Downing, who was sold to West Ham United for £6m this week having previously refused to consider a move to Upton Park before being informed his first team chances at Liverpool would be limited next season. Downing had two years remaining on an £80,000-a-week contract at Anfield but the Liverpool manager denies forcing the England international out, and claimed it was the 28-year-old's decision to go.

"It was ultimately the player's decision really," Rodgers said. "Stewart was one I was in no hurry to move, he had two years left on his deal. But he was offered an incredible deal at West Ham so decided to go with it. He had a difficult period early on but we had a wonderful relationship and he did a real diligent job for us on that side. It's something where he has taken that decision to go. He was always part of the plan here."

Liverpool have inquired about the £30m-rated Willian at Anzhi Makhachkala and Rodgers is adamant there will be further additions to his squad before the transfer deadline. Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel, who both missed last Saturday's friendly defeat by Celtic with minor injuries, returned to training on Thursday and are expected to be available against Stoke.

Brentan Rodgers definitely not speaking or referring to Suarez anymore.

I think if you are going to pretend you are a big club that will sign big players it is probably necessary to at least spend £1 in the transfer window. We haven't done that yet so I'm not sure this deliberately engineered fiasco has achieved the goal of trying to make Arsenal look like a serious football club not run by money grabbing scum. Add the Rooney nonsense in and on balance I'd say we have come out of this looking like the biggest laughing stock in world football bar Man City. So no change there then and on we go to another non-competitive season and 4th place by hook or by crooks.

Can we change the title to this and other player name threads? It's just plain simple we will not be signing any players of significance, maybe the title should read "Free Agent Thread" or "Cheap as Chips Thread", season starts tomorrow and not one player signing apart from a dodgy french under 21 player who came in as a free with history on bad injuries. Makes me sick, that Tottenham have spent over £60 mill and broken our transfer record and we are looking for young free players, we are the smallest club in the EPL.

If there's any twist it'll be a new contract or Madrid bid.

I didn't hear of anything last night. Maybe they're building a Waitrose after all, and that's what convinced him to stay.

But if this one is a hoax then I'm happy for MO to change his name to Cock Nose...

New contract most probably, with a release clause in it for next season.

That wouldn't be a twist though given the last suggestion was that he won't be going anywhere.

Fucking Costco?? WTF! Don't they have Waitrose in Scouse land??

It's funny to see a guy earning £5m+ per year doing the supermarket shop and in Costco of all places.

He's not gonna be earning that type of money forever, and he's regular guy, minus the salary. He grew up in small city in a tiny country. Suarez has never come across as a look at me, i'm star type of person.

Oh c'mon, he's earned enough money to never have to buy costco food for the rest of his life! Waitrose deliver as well anyway.

He must just like trudging round costco. Footballers are pretty dull tbh.

The Guardian really is shit at this type of thing.

The Guardian are no better than tabloids really. Real Madrid will bid but it won't be accepted. Well brilliant.

Up until a few years ago, you could rely on newspapers like The Guardian and websites like the BBC to be reliable and publish only verifiable and virtually confirmed information. Now they're just rolling around in the same gossipy cesspit as everyone else, with their leading 'journalists' fighting for muppetry points on Twitter.

Probably something obvious like 'RM open to selling Benzema to fund Suarez move'

I don't agree, broadsheets have been printing shite about transfers for ages.

Could be Liverpool are stupid enough to think, that Daniel Sturridge will be the next big thing (...NOT) after his fine start and therefor thinking of taken 40-50mil from us and get rid of a troublemaker.

An absolutely despicable human being who spits, bites, swears, kicks, slaps, pushes and says racist bad words to opponents. Wouldn't want my kids to be exposed to this sort of thing at the Emirates anyway.

Hope he's booed by all corners of our stadium.

And then signs a pre-contract agreement tbf.

Depending how Liverpool do, possible January bid? He won't be cup tied for Europe either. Though knowing Suarez, he will be serving a 24 match ban by then for something
