Manchester United are ready to match Manchester City's bid for Arsenal captain Robin van Persie. The 28-year-old striker's contract at the Emirates Stadium expires at the end of next season.
Full story: Daily Mirror

Juventus have curtailed their interest in Van Persie, preferring to avoid a bidding war with Manchester City and concentrate their efforts on luring Napoli forward Edison Cavani.

A year or two ago, I would have been ecstatic to find out he would come to arsenal, but the last 6 months has shown him up to be nothing but a dirty little prostitute, whoring his wares out to whoever is willing to take him.

ROBIN VAN PERSIE’S Arsenal future hangs in the balance after showdown talks with boss Arsene Wenger.

The Gunners had hoped to persuade their captain to agree a lucrative new three-year deal worth £130,000 a week that would see off interest from champions Manchester City and keep him at the Emirates.

But yesterday’s talks, which have been described as tense and tetchy, broke down with no agreement.

Fears are now mounting that Van Persie could be tempted by a move from Arsenal to the Etihad, with City desperate to land the Premier League’s top star.

As revealed in SunSport yesterday, Arsenal are willing to play hard ball if 28-year-old Van Persie does not sign — and will make him see out the last year of his current deal.

The Dutchman hit 37 goals for the Gunners this season and was named both PFA and Football Writers’ Player of the Year.

Let him become Citeh's problem, they have shown that you can stamp your feet, hold your breath even refuse to play and run off to your own country saying you will never be seen wearing the colours again and it is forgivable! they're not even in the champions league for definite yet !

it's not about money because he's hardly earning much by todays standard if he goes to spurs. really hope chelsea win the champions league so the tossers across the road don't get european football.

Why are you so mad, maybe he wants to go to Spurs, because he likes what he heard from them and feels this is the best choice for him.

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has intimated that the club would be willing to sell star striker Radamel Falcao - but only for the right price.

The Colombia international only joined the Rojiblancos last summer from Porto and has enjoyed a fantastic debut campaign at the Vicente Calderon, the highlight of which was his double in last week's Europa League final win over Athletic Bilbao.
Falcao's fine form has reportedly attracted the interest of Europe's elite, with Chelsea said to be considering offering Fernando Torres in exchange for their current top scorer, but while Cerezo admits every player has his price, he points out that rumours are often the work of mischievous agents.

"There are always snakes in summer and by August will see thousands who will be talking all the time like this," the Rojiblancos supremo told Caracol Radio.

"Falcao is under contract for four more years with Atletico Madrid, and at this time [of year] there are always offers.

"Football in Europe moves very quickly, so if there are bids, they will be studied; if not, then nothing."

Cerezo moved to reassure Atletico fans by adding that the club are hoping to hang on to a forward that he holds in the highest esteem.

"Unquestionably, we must recognize that [Barcelona's] Lionel Messi is one of the best players in the world, if not number one, but that does not mean that Falcao is within the top five," he argued.

Atletico paid Porto a reported €40 million for Falcao, who has subsequently hit 36 goals in 50 games for the side from the Spanish capital.

Regarding Van Persie, he was great for us this year but mainly because he was healthy all year. Based on his history one has to conclude that this season was an aberration. He could very easily get crocked at the Euros and we'll be his only suitors. If he'd been brilliant for half a season as per usual, no one would be talking quite so much about being desperate to land a very talented and productive player who can't stay fit for a full season and is rapidly approaching 30.

Unless Yaya and a few others are being sold can't see this happening with Hazard going there too. He'd hardly play.

Funny how Vieira says we need quality soon as we see someone we want He goes and poaches them. lol

He'll never have another season like this. Wouldn't surprise me if he did get injured or even if he went off the boil for large periods and managed to get around half the goals he's getting now. But I still think the club should give him whatever he wants. £200k, £300k - who gives a shit. We, as fans, are not going to see the benefits of holding the money.

Lukasz Fabianski is hoping Arsenal allow him to leave the club this summer after becoming frustrated at being left on the bench.

The Poland goalkeeper is understudy to his compatriot Wojciech Szczesny at the Emirates, but wants to be first choice.

And Fabianski, who joined Arsenal five years ago, has accepted that is not likely to happen in North London, and has set his heart set on a fresh start.

He told Polish newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza: "I hope that my adventure with Arsenal has come to an end.

"I intend to leave and play in a strong league.

"I wanted to leave in the winter, too, but Arsene Wenger did not give a green light."

This, if the money was going to spent on quality then id have no probs with selling him. But like you say Wenger and the board need to break the bank and keep him at all costs.

And i agree on him not having another season like this one.

He's really good. There's another one Fulham have - some 18 year winger. He's another Oxlade but little bit more tippy-tappy. Forgot his name but he will be great. I think sufficient time has passed to get over the loss of Wilshere and get a new puppy. And that Fulham kid is ideal.

SNUBBED Theo Walcott has been left stunned by Arsenal failing to hold contract talks before he goes to Euro 2012.

While the Gunners made a big effort to negotiate with Robin Van Persie this week, they made no attempt to speak face to face with Walcott, who also has a year left on his deal.

Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham are all aware of the 23-year-old’s unrest at his treatment.

Arsenal are playing a risky game as he can leave on a free next summer.

Even if Arsenal do make an effort to bring Walcott in for talks before joining England, it is understood the winger will say ‘no’ because he does not want any distractions before Euro 2012.

Walcott joined the Gunners in a £15m deal in January 2006 and has been capped 22 times by his country.

But after a season in which his form was patchy, boss Arsene Wenger does not appear to be pulling out the stops to keep him.

Midfielder Alex Song is also going into the last year of his deal.

So the club face having to sell Van Persie, Walcott and Song or risk losing them on frees in a year.

Skysports.com understands Arsenal are leading the chase for Birmingham City starlet Foday Nabay and hope to conclude a deal next week. The teenager is regarded as one of the hottest prospects in the country having been called up by England Under-16s last summer as a 12-year-old.
Nabay, who is being labelled as the next Yaya Toure, (http://topics.skysports.com/Yaya+Toure/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif is believed to have activated a clause in his contract that allows him to leave St Andrews (http://topics.skysports.com/St+Andrews/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif with prospective clubs only needing to pay Blues (http://topics.skysports.com/blues/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif for training compensation.
CompetitionThe Sierra Leone-born youngster has spent six seasons with the Midlands club, but could now be on the verge of a move to one of England's elite with fierce competition for his signature.
Arsenal (http://topics.skysports.com/arsenal/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif are the favourites to land Nabay and it is obvious why the teenager would be interested in a move to the Gunners, who have helped the likes of Theo Walcott (http://topics.skysports.com/Theo+Walcott/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to develop to win places in England's 23-man squad for this summer's European Championship.
The north Londoners are understood to have seen a bid rejected by Birmingham last month, however, Arsenal are set to make a fresh move next week with a view to thrashing out terms.

Bendtner for Kagawa imho.

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Shinji Kagawa has fuelled speculation surrounding a possible move to the Premier League after putting his flat up for rent. The 23-year-old has been heavily linked with a transfer to Manchester United, who have in fact been trailing the BVB player for some time now, as Goal.com first revealed in April.

A deal looked increasingly likely after Sir Alex Ferguson travelled to Berlin to watch the Japanese in the DFB Pokal final, where the Dortmund man scored one and set-up another.

The player's agent has also confirmed talks with the Scot have taken place, while Kagawa himself said that he would love to play in the Premier League.

In a new revelation, Kagawa has put his flat up for rent online. There is yet to be any interest but it is expected to be resolved soon, paving the way for a move to England.

United's current top Asian import, Ji-Sung Park, has been quoted saying that the attacking midfielder would do well at the club.

Lille managing director Frederic Paquet has told Sky Sports that 'four teams' are challenging for Eden Hazard's signature.

The French season ended on Sunday with Hazard claiming a hat-trick in a 4-1 success over Nancy in what looks certain to have been his farewell appearance.

Both Manchester City and United are in the running for his signature, whilst European champions Chelsea have also emerged as contenders in recent days.

Paquet now says another club are also in the mix for Hazard but it is the player and not Lille who will decide.

"I am not sure he knows [who he will sign for] himself where he will go, so for the moment, we don't know," he told Sky Sports NewsHD.

"From my knowledge he has four teams interested in buying him.

"It is not up to us to tell to him [where to go].

"We have a very strong relationship with the player, we will work together and are waiting for him to make a choice between these four teams."

Lille football star Eden Hazard will reportedly make his decision tonight on where in the EPL he will transfer to. Whoever misses out on the talented young player should consider themselves lucky.Let's take a look at why Hazard is such a hot commodity, and conversely, why he shouldn't be one. The Appeal of Eden Hazard

Listen, there is no denying this kid's talent, and at 21 years old, he only has room to continue to get better.

His skills are endless.

In 34 appearances with Lille, he scored 17 goals and distributed 16 assists. Additionally, he got off 2.8 shots per game, made 2.5 key passes per game and had a pass success percentage of 81.4.Insanely talented and creative with the ball at his feet, Hazard is tremendous at getting the ball down the sideline and whipping it in for his teammates, but he's also tremendous at putting the ball in the net.

Hazard made 23 appearances for Lille at left forward, but he can also move to the middle and play a center-attacking midfielder role because he can shoot from distance and finish with precision.

If you were ever going to call someone a poor-man's Cristiano Ronaldo, Eden Hazard would be the guy.

Why He Isn't Worth It

Simply put, the money is ridiculous.

According to dailymail.co.uk, Chelsea is offering Hazard £250,000 per week. While that's insanely high, it's certainly understandable considering how good Hazard is and how far he is from hitting his prime.

Nonetheless, I question taking that kind of a risk on Hazard. The main reason for this?

Hazard's attitude. He's talented, yes, but his poor attitude and propensity to sulk, argue and give up for balls scares me a little bit. Sure, you can probably find those attributes in a lot of footballers, but I wouldn't be willing to pay top dollar for someone like that.

To me they are just too unpredictable, especially once they get a huge deal.

It's possible that this is just me, but I don't like taking risks on flashy players. There's the chance they become one of the best in the world, yet the chance they flake out is too risky.

Additionally, Hazard is coming from Ligue 1, which is far from the EPL, although that doesn't scare me as much because he was tremendous in the Champions League as well.

Essentially, there's only a few players in the world I would give this kind of money to. Hazard isn't one of those players. Yet.

But he's in prime position to prove me wrong.

From where I was sitting, I saw more balance, comradeship, drive in the team than I have in a long time. I admit there where times that things unravelled but I definitely hope to see the guys raise tbat a notch higher next time and Wenger to bring in likewise players.

Hazard does not fit that bill, what we will get is a great player but one who will thinks is audacious salary demands some kind of special treatment and we run the risk of unbalancing things once again.

We will need to offer wages that will satisfy the right player and hopefully get them to believe we do have ambition,
RvP will demand more than we have ever paid but we should give it to him because he has done his time. . .Eden has yet to.

Well he certainly wouldn't be too good for us. Apart from Zidane all the best French players have played for us. Too expensive, I'll give you that one. Honestly though, sounds exactly the sort of player we don't need. Don't know anything about this MVila either but don't care either way. I like Podolski already, he just decided on the move and got it done. Now he can play the summer out without all the transfer shit getting in the way and then get down to business with us (in our treatment room I bet, but still). Some of these players have an awful high opinion of thmeselves and in the end they are only marginally better than others who make much less fuss. We need 11 solid players on the pitch, not one prima donna with 10 water carriers. Arteta is a classic example, looking forward to seeing him playing for the shirt again rather than a dickhead like Hazard playing for his next transfer. Plenty of talent in the PL we could go after. That Siggurdson looked okay. Dempsey would be fine too.

Jan Vertonghen is ready to hand in a transfer request to force through a move to Tottenham as Spurs chairman Daniel Levy holds crunch talks with Ajax in Amsterdam on Monday. The defender has told his club that he is only interested in a move to White Hart Lane and wants the two teams to swiftly agree a fee.

The Belgian centre-back has already agreed personal terms with Spurs after a trip to London in which he was shown around their new training centre in Enfield and was a guest of the club at their last match of the season, a 2-0 home win over Fulham.

The move has hit a snag over the Dutch club’s £12.1 million asking price, although Goal.com understands that Ajax will accept £9.7m for a player who only has a year remaining on his contractSpurs have so far offered £8.1m for the defender, who was named Eredivisie Player of the Year for his outstanding contribution to Ajax’s title triumph.

It is believed that Vertonghen is prepared to hand in a transfer request in order to push through the deal if talks on Monday result in stalement and the two clubs cannot secure an agreement.

The 25-year-old has his heart set on a move to White Hart Lane and his mind has not been changed by events in Munich on Saturday night, when Chelsea’s Champions League triumph relegated Spurs to the Europa League next season.

Tottenham made an official move for the Belgian at the start of this month having failed with an attempt to sign him in January and Vertonghen has settled on the north Londoners because he believes that he will be able to play more regularly in his favourite centre-back position for a Champions League-calibre club.
."Vertonghen has settled on the north Londoners because he believes that he will be able to play more regularly in his favourite centre-back position"Manager Harry Redknapp considers the defender a key part of his plans for next season and a long-term replacement for club captain Ledley King, who suffers from ongoing knee problems.

“Tottenham are absolutely my favourite," the defender told De Telegraaf earlier this month. "Tottenham is a fantastic football club that has the tradition I want. They buy young, eager, offensive-minded players.

“[But] the Ajax board are asking for a very big amount for a player whose contract is running out in year.

“I trust that both Tottenham and Ajax will put some water in the wine and they will soon reach an agreement."

Borussia Dortmund's highly-rated Japanese midfielder Shinji Kagawa will cost prospective buyers around 20 million euros (£16.17m).

The club's owner Hans-Joachim Watzke revealed the German champions want a 'princely sum' despite the 23-year-old having just a year remaining on his contract.

Kagawa, who netted 17 goals for Dortmund this season to help them secure a second consecutive title, has already met for talks with Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson, while he has also been linked to other high-profile clubs including Arsenal, Chelsea and AC Milan.
But Watzke told Sport Bild that the club would not be fooled into selling him for a derisory price.

Abilities

"We all know the abilities of Shinji, his youth and the value he adds to this side," said Watzke.

"I also note what Bayern Munich paid for goalkeeper Manuel Neuer (22 million euros from Schalkelast year).

"He also only had a year left on his contract. Given those facts we can certainly expect a princely sum for him."

I'm with you, funny thing about Japanese players, I'd expect to see some real superstars now as they've had an established league for a while, whilst they do have some excellent players they're never quite top level.

Nakata was not bad but he's been Japan's best player to date and even he wasn't really at the very top of the game. Wasn't overly impressed with Kagawa when we played them to be honest either. For that kind of money for a player with one year left on his contract we should be getting a top quality player.

I don't think he has that genius based on what I've seen of him, so no I don't think he'll be a top top player, he'll work hard get a few goals like Park Ji Sung but he won't be leading us to any trophies.

Not really no, we were knocked out of everything by February, lost 10 games in the league and received some heavy beatings as well. Park Ji Sung is a good squad player for Man U, but he's not usually in the 1st team, you don't spend 17 million on a player with one year left on his contract just to stick him on the bench.

I don't think it's fair to suggest he's a passenger at Dortmund. The guy is very productive and he's been a key figure in their back to back title wins. Just Youtube the guy (I know, I know), but it's pretty easy to deduce that he has extremely good tekkers, I'd even say he's got more ability than anyone in our current midfield.

Whether he would stand up to the physical nature of the Prem remains to be seen, but he's recieved plaudits for a reason and it shouldn't be ignored IMO.

Productive yes no doubt about that, but he's no matchwinner. Our current midfield isn't exactly top notch let's be honest, so sure he'd be an improvement, I think we need a bit of genius though and IMO he's not it.

Well if he is so bad why us Fergie desperately after him.

Talk is he wants Hazard, maybe he'd be happy to have both but Hazard is most likely his main target out of the two....since he's a better player and a playmaker.
