Owen has previous with Wilshere. And he's desperately trying to win back Liverpool fans.
I don't think he ever will. He was never truly worshipped anyway, not in the same vein as others before and since. It was always England first and we knew that.

If the stinking chavs are really in this hunt then little chance we'll win it. They'll just shake down a few more peasants in the Ukraine, embezzle a few more funds from a few protected companies and wash the cash into gangster Roman's account to give Khedira some silly amount.

Chelsea don't even particularly need him.
But they'll sure as hell buy a player to deny him to a rival. They had no use for Salah, they just didn't want Liverpool using him.
Khedira could be another Willian deal, suspiciously sudden interest on the eve of him joining an opponent.
In the end it's down to the player, does he want to suck up every last deutschemark and play for, with and in front of a bunch of scrofulous anal cancers?
Or does he want to keep his soul, and have his career and person stand for more than just greed, moral bankruptcy and a contempt for Ukrainian peasants?

One of the two, we can't match them and Arsenes seduction only goes so far.
One thing is certain, if we got both Sanchez & Khedira it plants us firmly back in the top tier, we can have no complaints or excuses for not challenging. We just need to pull this off.

Wenger has done it again. AGAIN NO centre forward signed. Only one player signed Sanchez. Debuchy has not yet signed and no replacement for Fabianski. Wenger got his contract before the world cup to make sure nobody takes his place. Where has all those millions promised to strengthen the team gone ?? Arseblog did make a good point this morning that we don't seem to be linked with any Centre Backs. considering we only have three and Merts will be rested for the first few games, TV wants to leave as he isn't first choice and that only leaves the Kos-meister. We have lost Sagna as well who could have covered and last year we were lucky with centre back injuries or lack of them. So doubt that will be repeated again this year.
Definitely short at CB even if we don't sell Vermaelen. But defenders and gk signings aren't exciting for fans so I'm not that bothered (even though it'll surely fuck up our season). Jenkinson seems a better CB than he is a RB so we might be alright.

Good going so far, 2 down and 4 to go:
1. Another forward to add even more fire power. Good striker or Griezmann just for the jizzfest ...emoticon for jizzfest pliz!
2. Strong central midfielder, Khedira, Schneiderlin or Bender.....I'll take any one of them, mind you Khedira and Schneiderlin are actually good ball players as well.
3. Competitive and competent Goalkeeper ....there's a few out there
4. Tie down Vermaelen, good back up CB, LB (put it this way, I'd rather him over Nachos at left back) ....too bad he can't play CM, would have got game time and be an able utility cover but those are rare.

According to goal.com it was roughly 10 million euros so about £8 million which is a steal for a player with his potential IMO. He's a boyhood Dortmund fan so that and the prospect of working with Klopp in his native country may have been too much for us to overcome but you'd never know until you try though. We certainly would be able to offer more money and potentially a better future though I'd imagine he'd get more game time at Dortmund (Hummels may be off).
We missed out on Zouma as well who's another one who I think will go on to become a beast though whether that'd be at Chelsea though I'm not so certain. They've got a wealth of talent coming through in that area though (Aké & Kalas) and Chelsea being Chelsea will always spend big bucks if they feel that their youth aren't 100% ready, so he may not get the game time he needs. Sigh, it does sicken me that all these fantastic youth prospects still get lured by the Russian mafia ..................... would have thought seeing what happens to the likes of De Bruyne and Lukaku would deter some of them but alas it seems that money talks.
I do hope we line up someone of that ilk soon though as it increasingly appears that Miguel won't cut it and the first trio of CB's are all approaching the wrong side of 20 now.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The sounds coming from the club are that we have money to spend, and we haven't yet dipped into the Suarez pot as the players we've signed are the ones we wanted in the first place i.e. improving the squad. But apart from that, who knows.
Ludicrously we've been linked with Vidal, Pogba, Reus and Varane. Like the fervent ramblings of an FM player, they just aren't happening. Any of them. In a million years.
Personally, I feel we could do with a big name, marquee player. The need for one gets overstated, but I think the sheer uplift in confidence is enough, especially given we've sold a world class player. Who is available, that we could attract and that the others wouldn't be interested in though I'm not sure. I wouldn't want us to spunk £40m for the sake of it.
I just hope we don't forget that we need to buy some defensive players. I'm astounded we aren't pushing more strongly for Ben Davies at Swansea, who is apparently on the verge of signing for Spurs. Moreno, another left back is one I'm not too keen on because of the insane fee Sevilla are quoting us. But if we get Ryan fucking Bertrand I might just give up.

Vidal's a good player and has held his spot with Juve for a while. It's not World Cup hype. Juve had a CL run a couple of seasons back where they tore Chelsea apart and topped their group. That's how i remember him. Solid player.

There's talk that Madrid are going to make Isco available to fund their James pursuit and that you're after him. Without going into the retardness of Madrid getting rid of a top tier talent like Isco to fund their next vanity project that would be a massive coup for you if you could pull if off. He's a top class talent with bags of potential who I personally see going to become one of the best in the world soon.
A bit like our Ozil move last summer it's kind of worked out perfectly for you. You have money and all the rest of the super clubs seem to have that position filled up (Ozil, Mata, Cesc, Gotze etc) and have spent already this summer. Massively sickening to see him in a Liverpool shirt.
Also, Arsene's comments after the match
Arsène Wenger spoke to the media after Arsenal's 2-0 pre-season friendly victory against Boreham Wood. This is what he had to say:
on a good workout…
For us it was important to give everybody a run-out to see how close the young players are, to see how fit the players who are used to playing in the Premier League are. Overall what we want is [to avoid] injuries and to get everybody at a good fitness level.
on getting players fit during major tournament years…
It's much more difficult because players come back stage by stage. Players that have gone out early come back next week for example the three players that won the World Cup will return at the beginning of August, so it's very difficult to get everybody at the same level at the start of the season.
[B]on pictures of Jack Wilshere in the press…
I haven't spoken to him so it's very difficult for me to make any statement. I know what you can make of pictures - I have to speak to him really to see what happens before I come out publicly. I'm not deeply concerned by it. I just want to know what happened and before I know what happened, I don't want to talk too much about it.
on Cesc Fabregas…
I think people came out and said he wanted to go to Chelsea. I don't know who tells the truth here or not. He landed where he wanted to go.
on Arsenal's summer signings so far…
I'm very happy with what I could do until now. It's not over - there's still a long way to go.
on what other positions could be strengthened…
I can't give you any names because you are never sure that you can do what you want. We are still out there to strengthen our squad.
on the competition in midfield…
There's big competition but there are many players with a lot of talent that didn't play many games last year. Oxlade-Chamberlain was out for a long time, Wilshere was injured and Diaby was injured for the whole season. They are back now and it's very difficult to predict how fit they will be at the beginning of the season. There's a big competition in the middle of the park, yes.
on Mertesacker, Ozil and Podolski winning the World Cup…
What is good is that [Germany] won the World Cup, so their confidence should be stronger. We won the FA Cup with the last game of the season, they went away and won the World Cup. Winning makes you only stronger and more confident and hopefully we will benefit from that in the new season.
on Louis van Gaal's appointment…
What is important is our performances. I believe that Manchester United have appointed a great manager who has shown during the World Cup that he's top quality. It will certainly be difficult for us but for other competitors as well. We are all at the same level.
on if he wants to sign a goalkeeper…
I will bring in a goalkeeper for sure.
on Thomas Vermaelen's future…
I cannot guarantee that [he will stay at the club] but should he go, I will bring another centre back in for sure.
on doing transfer deals early…
You are not the only one who decides that. Sometimes players that you want are available very late. You refer maybe to the Ozil case but at the same period last year, he was not available and became available very late. We'll do the deals when it's possible and that depends on three different opinions. This team we could do it early.
on how important this season is for Wilshere…
He's at an age where yo want him to move forward. He has the potential. I believe for him, the most important [thing] now is to have a good preparation and focus on getting really fit. Jack is a great player - he has a football brain and he's ambitious. I'm sure that [if] he's injury free, he will have a great season.
on when he will speak to Wilshere…
Next week.
Should be more signings. Certainly a keeper but no word on a DM. Vermelean may be off but he'll definitely be replaced if he is.
Wilshere hasn't been called into his office yet. :coffee:
Power n Glory
19-07-2014, 06:12 PM
He may not say anything in public about Jack and let it blow over. The health implicatications, example to kids...blah, blah, blah...is one thing, but openly disobeying the manager is a more of an issue for me. It reflects badly on Wenger as well as the player.
The story may die down if we knock out more signings and if Jack can avoid getting into more trouble. He'll also need to have a good season on the field or his performances will come under more scrutiny. Already a little backstory brewing to set up a whole season and these media vultures are waiting to play that card.

Remy was out for the last few weeks of the season due to that very injury type. Doesn't seem like Rodgers has any intention on slowing down the mental games you had last season.

Vidal has been astonishingly good for Juve and even Pogba has been a little in his shadow. Admittedly, he didn't have the best world cup.
I would prefer Bony to Remy at Arsenal even if the former would be far cheaper. I'm still not totally comfortable with Sanogo being Giroud's main obvious competition at CF. Sanchez could play there but that little experiment is 50/50.
I expected Wenger to say what he did about the keeper and CB because losing Vermaelen and not replacing him would be pure negligence and not signing a back up keeper would look farcical too.
Wilshere will get bored of the bench when he is fit and buck his ideas up. He may be a bit of a lad, but he definitely wants to improve his game and he definitely wants to play.
Joel Cambell will be ahead of Sanogo in the pecking order

Even though I think the rumours of his demise based on his performances at the WC (anyone would struggle with Pique and Ramos in front of them) are over exaggerated I'm not sure whether I would still want him. Seems a bit of a dressing room cancer, would demand massive wages and probably would be equally as frustrated warming our bench.

Oh good.
In that case; Ludicrously we've been linked with Vidal, Pogba, Reus, Varane and Isco. Like the fervent ramblings of an FM player, they just aren't happening. Any of them. In a million years.

Heavily linked to Man Utd at the start of the summer window though things seemed to have cooled off with them and now they're more linked to Vidal.
Decent player though (probably expected) a tad overrated as Lisbon want to squeeze as much money as they can out of him. A bit worried that he's not top level/club material as I don't think he's really performed as the top level so far as all due respect to the Portuguese league ........ it's not comparable to the PL, La Liga or the Bundesliga. Didn't really set the world alight for Portugal during the WC either.
Meh, would prefer Khedira, Bender or Schniderlin. Actually it may just be a deliberate rumour/tactic from our part to pressure Khedria to drop his excessive wage demands though (good idea).

Wenger says he won't bring in another striker. I really don't know about that. We're taking another gamble on Giroud and with Walcott out for the start of the season, I doubt Sanchez will start in the middle ahead of Giroud. It's risky but I'd prefer a more mobile striker at the top. We'll see what happens. Walcott and Sanchez on either flank does sound dangerous though.

I don't mind having Giroud for the games against the lower teams but you're right, in the big games when the chances fall to him, he won't put them away.

I'm not so sure about us getting a midfielder either.
"Up front we don't need any more," he told reporters. "It's not especially for numbers.
"We need a goalkeeper for sure and, after that, it depends on how our midfielders get through without injuries until the start of the season," he continued. "Maybe at centre-back we'll still bring one in."
He may gamble on Diaby's fitness again or give Coquelin a chance. He seems undecided but we'll need a CB for sure.

Schneiderlin wants to link up with his old boss at Spurs, according to reports. I don't think that will happen.
Also, reports say we have a bid turned down for William Carvalho because we wanted to pay in two instalments instead of money up front. It all seems a bit shaky at the moment and I think Wenger will use this time to look at internal solution.

Basically whoever we buy for DM is going to cost a fair bit assuming Carvalho and Bender are our remaining targets.

Also, an interesting tidbit I discovered today. Ospina (our new to be GK) is apparently the soon to be brother-in-law of Hamez Rodiguez, in that his sister is going out with him. When Real discard him in a couple of years for their next flavour of the month that's a perfect connection to help us swoop in, Ozil style.

Would be a good move for him. Its hard to see him getting much game time with the amount of widemen/attacking players we have right now. Theo, Ox, Cazorla, Pod, Sanchez etc are all ahead of him in the pecking order.

Personally I don't see it happening because Vermaelen will see out his contract at Arsenal, I think United don't want to pay over ten million for him and he will be with us next season

Ideal scenario for us IMO is for Isco to linger about at Madrid for another year and us to swoop in next summer and get him as our Santi replacement. Santi's moving into his 30's and I can see him being sold for someone younger next season.
As MO says, it would be absolutely horrendous for Isco to end up at Liverpool. He's actually really good.

RAWK:
'It seems quite obvious to me that BR is primarily going for players right now that can 'grow' together and then in 2 or 3 years they may be good enough to win the title - and the aim is to keep winning it again and again. Chelsea will always sign up whoever is in vogue for 40, 50, 60 million - players who may be already past their best like Torres and Shevchenko. United have lost all of their old heads and their leaders and will have to start from scratch. Citys main men aren't getting any younger.
If BR can get the likes of Sakho, Flanagan, Henderson, Origi, Sterling, Markovic - who are all in their early 20's if that - playing together as a core group and growing together for the next few years as a team then he will only have to find a couple of wise heads to compliment that. He's laying the foundations for the future by getting them in early.
I think our core group of lads - especially Sturridge, Henderson and Sterling could turn out to be our versions of Scholes, Beckham and Giggs.'

Being wildly optimistic about the future is one of the central points of being a fan. It's probably the whole point.
I've seen plenty of level headed posters on here rave about youngsters who turned out to be shite, or about forming a group of players who will play for years to come and who then leave in their prime, or about how in 3/4 years time you'd have a team to definitely win the league. Happens all the time, at every single club.

Unfortunately for that Pool fan, that line about Chelsea et al's massive spending is exactly why his plan won't work - the second any of the young players he's talking about start to show any kind of serious form they'll be picked off by Chelsea, City, Madrid, Barca, PSG, etc, etc, and you'll be left with another project player to take their place. Take it from a club that knows - we tried doing the exact same thing when the Invincibles broke up and we were trying to finance the move to the Emirates, and for 8/9 years we just couldn't keep a squad together. Nice idea, but it won't work - young players just don't have the patience for it (especially when one of them suddenly develops faster than their team mates, and their agent/s start whispering in their ears), and any sensible owner will always take the cash if the offer is that ridiculously high...

I think you are right but in fairness to them, for that plan to come to fruition a club needs to be willing to hold players to their contract and Liverpool did that with Suarez.....so much so, they were willing to lie about the terms of that contract and promises to said player.
Of course they let him go eventually but they got a bucket load of goal and clearly started to see the troubled soul everybody else has been seeing for some time now.
You would be hard pressed to see any vision to it's conclusion if you don't hold on to your key players.

I knew he'd be off this season. Ryo has to be next if we can find him a club. Same goes for Coquelin and lord only knows what's going on with Wellington Silva. I hope the new youth coaches have more direction and success with who they bring through. Most of the kids we bring over from other academies end up staying in the reserves then moved on. If they're not ready to sit on the bench the first team, like Ox and Walcott, they're moved on.

Besides, didn't we match the mancs' offer for him and Smalling only to be snubbed by both of them.
Let the useless fuckers rot on the bench at OT, I say.
Many of our own fans were saying that about Mertescielny when they first came..... I don't think Jones' endeavour in playing should really be heavily criticised. Sometimes it is a little over zealous and he needs to hone his skills but I think that Wenger and Fungusface were both really interested for a reason like they both were in Ramsey.
If Jones gets the injury free run and a settled position and he turns out to be total tripe.....I will happily accept being slaughtered for it.
Though I should say I wasn't suggesting our efforts go on getting him out of there....simply that I think he is a very talented player.

I'd probably shuffle a couple of those options around a bit, but I like this graphic - good way have seeing where the squad is thin...

What's going on with Ospina? Has he actually signed or what? And, if so, why are we still getting linked with Casillas?

Feels like everything's gone a bit quiet everywhere, which is surprising? I thought Kroos and Rodriguez to Madrid might have kicked everything off? Maybe it's because everyone's on preseason tours or something?

Ospina is as good as done apparently. Won't be too long before he's announced I think.

So you're quietly optimistic or have the November review posts been out up early?

If we need a DM and have reverted back to being tight as so and so s we should consider Medel from Cardiff. Not the biggest, but it does what it says on the tin. He's also a leader, the type you want when things are going against you

Because the media haven't got a fucking clue.
This article summarises neatly the truth to that statement. They really don't have a fucking clue about football - all they understand is hype, they know nothing about the game itself, have no insight, have memories like goldfish and will change their dance steps depending on the size of the note being pushed into their brazier. Incredible article (aren't they all): http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2703883/James-Rodriguez-Gareth-Bale-Cristiano-Ronaldo-David-Beckham-Luis-Figo-Zinedine-Zidane-Real-Madrid-now.html
