Brilliant journalism again. If we sign Higuain it will show we are in the market for big players and we want to be competitive next season. Really good analysis. Previously I thought we were trying to sign him in a bid to get relegated. Looks like I was wrong, Cross' take makes more sense. Clever bloke.

That was under Mourinho where perhaps he didn't play as much as he wanted, they now have a new manager with new plans who's apparently keen to keep him meaning he'll most likely give him plenty of game time.

He's at one of the world's biggest clubs after all, so if he's getting games he probably won't be too keen to leave.

The only reports that ancellotti wants to keep him are coming from Italy. I wouldn't listen to those at all. His agent is a saying he is close, other papers saying ancellotti is happy to sign the deal off.

look, the club president, who has always run the show at madrid supposedly arranges a transfer fee and allows the player to sort personal terms.

then we are supposed to believe ancelotti, who is used to be being subservient to club owners, comes in and stops it all because he doesn't want it to happen.

the truth is this is now just a built in method for the media to continue to drag out a story that may not even exist.

agents talk shit for their benefit, or to create something out of nothing. like the media.

Yep, this will probably have little to do with the clubs and the player any more, it'll be about greedy maggots who want as big a skim as possible. I guess lots of deals get delayed while the vermin agents try and lure the likes of city or the chavs. Doubtful the media has any real inside track on what's happening, they just get used by the leeches - and are pleased to get used because it means they can waste even more ink and pretend to call it news.

Horrible sport (apart from the football bit which is secondary anyway), horrible people. We'll just have to wait until all their palms have been greased. Then the fans will get the real story.

So far the club is quids-in this window then? Which is okay considering plenty of dross has to be shifted. But let's hope they aren't using the Higuain saga to drag everyone to the window close and then claim they tried their best but (for reasons beyond their control) couldn't prevent a fat profit being made again.

More than one out isn't it? Could somebody please confirm Bendtner has gone? This is our biggest deal of the window, we better not fuck it up. Arshavin has gone too, so that's £80K pw off the books. Dennis "best in the World" Bendtner is £52K pw (LOL), around £7mill. Do these guys get paid for 52 weeks or just during the season? Is the "pw" thing their annual deal spread over 52 weeks (I presume they get paid monthly?)

Chamakh, Park, Gay Lion, Gervhino & Park out next please ...another £300k p/w off the books, easy.

If this happens, then it will definitely be one of our best transfer windows in recent memory.

Stan ain't thick, he just has a thick porn moustache is all. He put his foot down and was never going to pay for redundant resources with no return on investment. Wenget's transfer mistakes, plenty of late tbh, were now costing money and none of these were contributing to the team. They were essentially being paid to sit on the bench, reserves, go on loan or in Park's case unknown ...last seen on the border, trying to flog fake arsenal shirts to starving North Koreans

I'll be very happy with this window if all these outs are completed, we've been paying a whole team to do nothing. We missed a trick here, half of GW could have played for Arsenal based on Wenget's recent transfer policy.

100k, 150k - what's the difference? let's be honest. if you pay for sky or to go through the gates of your club you are being ripped off anyway. why does it matter to us what they are getting paid? 50k (2-3m) is obscene, so why not double it, triple it all the way.

All true. But even in our little rat runs, nobody likes a greedy fucker. And you might say get as much of it while you can. Nothing can be different while that's the attitude though. It has to start and end somewhere, won't be with these fucking footballers, it will have to be with us the plebs. So the only real power we have is not to subscribe to Sky, I hope enough make the choice and these fuckers go hungry. I could tolerate them when they were providing entertainment. Like everything in life, the less you get the more it costs. Football is just a symptom of a wider problem, like when Labour became the Tories. Football reflects what the world has become. Football wages might be a fantasy but let's choose some point somewhere to hold the line so total ****s like Rooney don't end up robbing us for a million a week. A nothing footballer like Fellani (good because he's not as bad as most of the rest) is worth what? Fuck all. Offer him a fiver (in arrears) and at least retain some dignity while he turns us down.

Also, at times it's sounded like (and I appreciate some of this is probably press talk/bullshit) that we've failed to get a player for the sake of a million or two which, given the sums we're talking about, seems a bit stupid. But none of us really know what goes on behind the scenes.

i saw an interesting theory today about why we haven't announced any deals or are taking our time. if you were united, and you saw that we had signed, higuain, fellani etc you would see us as a threat so therefore either charge sky high prices for rooney or just dont sell him as they wouldnt want to strengthen us further so we havnt announced any deals because we want to secure rooney first.

its an interesting theory, i think there could be something to it, if i was united wouldnt sell a rival another striker and strenghten them if they had already bought a world class one, so maybe the club is just wanting to do a mass announcement.

its an interesting theory, i think there could be something to it, if i was united wouldnt sell a rival another striker and strenghten them if they had already bought a world class one, so maybe the club is just wanting to do a mass announcement.
Of course you would make sure everyone knows you are poor first, and struggle to that extra bag of crisps to seal the deal...oh right :ilt:

I suppose it's possible (as in not completely impossible) we are playing it smart in a bid to line up three £20mill plus players in a single transfer window. Or there's the alternative possibility (as in not necessarily a 100% certainty) the club is trying to nickel and dime it's way to a single, significant signing but only if they can secure the player for an unreasonably low fee and unrealistically low wages. Going back through the evidence of the last decade I'd say yes, Higuain, Fellaini and Rooney are on the way.

QPR goalkeeper Julio Cesar has opened the door to a potential move to Arsenal by admitting he is keen to stay in London.

The Brazil international's future looks set to be resolved in the next few weeks following the end of the Confederations Cup.

Cesar is wanted back in Italy with Roma keen to sign the experienced stopper, but last month Goal revealed Arsenal had opened formal talks with QPR over a €1.2 million deal for the 33-year-old.

And speaking after their 3-0 Confederations Cup final victory over Spain, Cesar told reporters: "Now I have to do things right at my club so I can be considered for the World Cup.

"Did my son say he wants to stay in London? Yes, me too. I love the city and I’m enjoying living there."

QPR manager Harry Redknapp is expecting to lose his first-choice goalkeeper and has already admitted that Cesar's future lies away from Loftus Road.

Cesar was awarded the Golden Glove following Brazil's Confederations Cup triumph, conceding just three goals and making several impressive saves to deny the Spaniards in the final.

"I’m very happy for winning the Golden Glove," he added. "It’s a great award and it’s going to my collection."

He won't be coming

Arsenal defender Johan Djourou has signed for Hamburg on a season-long loan deal.

The 26-year-old started just two games in the Capital One Cup for Arsene Wenger's side last term before being sent out on loan to Hannover in January.

After making 16 appearances, the Bundesliga club were keen to make the defender's move permanent but the Switzerland international has instead opted to join divisional rivals Hamburg, who have an option to buy Djourou at the end of next season.

"I'm very happy now that everything is sorted. HSV are a big club, with a lot of quality and great fans," the centre-back told the German club's official website.

"I am convinced that this is the right step for my career.

"In London I would have earned much more money but that has not been decisive. I want to play as much as possible and develop myself and I see in Hamburg the optimum requirements."

Hamburg's director of sport, Oliver Kreuzer, added: "Johan was a priority as the defence is a very important part of our team. He has leadership qualities but is also fast, good in the air and very good on the ball."

Why not just sell him?

Interesting that we made a £18m bid for Bender. Less interesting that we were told to fuck off.

Think we only want to add one top forward and a top class DM, with maybe a couple of extra squad fillers. And I have a feeling our first choice is Rooney with the way the Higuain situation is panning out. Rooney's having 'crunch talks' with Man Utd. If there's a hope in hell Man Utd will sell to us (and they'd surely rather that than Chelsea or Man City) we'll give it a go.

Seems that the club's first choice signings are Rooney and Bender. Second choice are Higuain and Fellaini. If we were only to get two, I'd prefer Higuain and Bender.

There is nothing in the Rooney thing, there never has and there never will be.....when we baulk at playing anyone 100k a week why would we sign Rooney who is currently on about 250k a week at United. Wenger likes the player (although i don't really know why) and because of a comment he made in May we are forever linked with him....he will stay with United because Chelsea aren't stupid enough to buy him.
From what i can tell, the Higuain hold up is happening because we are trying to get him for the lowest possible price....i'm sure we can afford to pay 25million but we'd rather pay closer to the 19million we have already offered for him....but frankly it's rather pointless because in this climate a decent side (like say Man City who need a striker) could decide just to stump up Real Madrid's asking price and blow us out of the water.
I also get the impression Real Madrid are looking to buy before they sell so they may sign up Steven Jovetic before they agree to sell Higuain to us.
Same with Fellaini, we are trying to get them to lower the 23million asking price (which is ridiculous as that's his minium release fee clause and they'd have no choice but to agree to let him speak to us) and presumably his representative has told us he wants his client on 100k a week (which again i don't think particurlarly outrageous but our board and our transfer negotiation team seem out of step with reality)
As for Djourou it's abundantly clear why he's been signed on loan, a player with over two years left on his contract won't and doesn't need to accept a permenant contract from Hamburg when his parent club can still pay his current wage.
Still though just with Denilson, Squillaci and Arshavin we cleared almost 10million a year off the wage bill so i don't really understand why we are being so tight fisted.....if the board really were as greedy as we all seem to think they are it would make more sense to bring the players in and get revenues from marketing.

It's all ridiculous. We will walk away from buying a quality player for the sake of 2m but will gladly pay average players 2m more per year than they ever deserve. Every additional position in the premier league table is worth more than 2m alone.

I think we all agree it is going to have to take a major alignment of the stars before we pay anything close to what Rooney is on now butI just can't see him moving to Europe.....he is too much of a GHEL for that...now, he may or may not fit in at Chelski, I really don't know but something tells me that weoffer him the best chance to be themain man again and that is something Rooney's ego needs.....I am not adverse tobringing him in however first choice is Higs but if we were tobring in both of those with the idea Rooney sits behind main striker and one of Felliani or Bender.....I would be......rubbing my eyes, ears and other parts in disbelief

Arsenal are considering whether to make an offer for Manchester City and England midfielder Gareth Barry. The 32-year-old has a year left on his £100,000-per-week deal, and the Gunners would not be prepared to match those terms.

Considering?? "shall we?" "No." :good:

It could also mean SkyBet slash the odds, a day or two later SSN cite "Sky Sources", people lay money on it based on what SSN say which in turn shortens the odds and makes it seem more likely. Then a few days later another outlet say, The Times, claims Madrid will ramp up their interest, shortening the odds on SkyBet and the cycle starts again.

probably however the only thing that is slightly different to sky sources, is accroding to william hill, they suspeneded betting on it because of large bets in the barcelona area this morning, so although sky slashed odds, its not just them. but yes, its more likely to be what you say.

Seems Arseblog has specifically targeted Ollie in this morning's blog:

Finally for today, a word on ‘betting suspended’ stories which have become standard this summer. Twitter will become abuzz with the news that a bookie has suspended betting on a certain player joining a certain club, which leads rise to speculation that a deal is on the brink of completion.

The website associated with said bookie, be it their own portal, or a large sports website which may or may not have its own TV channel, then publishes a story saying betting has been suspended, adding another layer of ‘credibility’ to things. If that organisation does have a TV channel, it becomes a story on there too, with the bookie highlighted as the main source, but the issue is people think the story is about the player and transfer.

It’s not. It’s about the betting. These stories are cheap, and sadly effective, viral marketing. Nothing more. Nothing less. They prey on people’s desire, their need, to believe things they want to believe. I saw someone ask on Twitter last night, why would a bookie lie to us?

Why indeed. Save your money.

German Giroud in that he blows hot and cold. One match seems ultra clinical, then another needs a dozen chances to even get a shot on target. I think his style of play is similar, and I don't see him as likely to be much of an improvement on Giroud for us. Just my opinion.

Fair enough but wouldnt mind him missing some if he still had those stats at the end of the season. all strikers will miss and all strikers will blow hot and cold. he will blow hot more than cold i would say though.
rooney is a streak striker too in that aspect but is still generally quality.
