It's got to the point now where part of me wants us to spend no money just to see what would happen

Also, most of me thinks no signings will be made anyway

What would happen.

See last season.

Arsenal fan tv vid from last night, this guy knows his numbers  , and everything he says about Gazidis is bloody true, Gazidis is a cunt

Great video, and I cannot fault any of the points raised by the lad.

If my 2 minute investigation is correct, then Ivan Cashidis is the highest paid CEO in UK Football at present. There is also allegedly a clause in his contract that allows him to walk away from the Club we change Ownership with a lump sum equating to 3 x his annual wage (plus extras).

I think whoever writes these contracts should go do one! :fury:

Maybe..possibly...we've left ourselves in such a delicate situation regarding Player recruitment, what makes it even worse if reports are to believed is that we're pinning our hopes on purchasing players from Real Madrid on the basis that they sign Bale and the players we are after actually want to come here?

Our lack of planning and hit and hope strategy is nothing short of a disgrace. We are supposed to be an Elite European club.

We have been chasing unobtainable targets since the Suarez stitch up. Suarez, Rooney, now Benzema. This is deliberate. The one deal we could have made (for way below the £31mill if we had been decisive) was Higuain. We ran from that - on principle :haha: Yes, the miser's principle of spending no money. This is not a lack of planning, it is very detailed and deliberate planning by crooks.

Totally agree, we can see they're unattainable from the off, let's not fool ourselves, after 8 years without silverware we're no longer top of the pile, there's plenty of other more desirable destinations...sure we have CL football but that doesn't fool anyone when we don't invest in the team, sell our best players and never really challenge anymore.

Realistically the kind of players we're going after are never genuinely going to be interested in coming to us.

Those must have been tense times in the Arsenal boardroom, "But what if Liverpool accept £40mill, we're FUCKED!?", "Don't worry Ivan, I ring them every day and call them cunts, they will not sell, we are safe."

This is like anything in big business, you have the company agenda and then you have the public perception that has to be crafted. What is the overriding goal of a corporation? To make money for the shareholders, that's it. The method has a simple formula, do the bare minimum to maximise those profits. Nobody needs to sit down and conspire, they just need to follow the guiding principles of the corporation. Making crazy and impossible bids works well. You can achieve the primary goal while putting out a useful message that appeals, in this case, to the fans and sponsors and their money. Would they lie to achieve their aims? Of course, that's a key part of their job as corporate executives.

Waste of time even considering him, he's at a club a level above us and it would be a step down for him to come here and have no hope of winning anything, that's if Chelsea would even sell him to us which they won't.

No I want us to sign quality but am realistic and realise that we can't sigh the top tier of players anymore, not after 8 years of failure, it is YOU who needs to wake up and realise we can't sign these kind of players, all summer you've been saying you think this player and that player is coming...and guess what they haven't, perhaps you should re-assess your opinion.

Spurs can't sign them either, but they are signing players within their reach and not scared to splash the cash, we're basically going after pipedream signings we'll never spend money on because they'll never come.

We need somebody at the club who will pay the transfer fee and part of the wages under the counter and then tell Wenger the player is available on a free and on low wages. Wenger would jump at this provided there was a solid injury record, which could always be faked. A little waiting period and the deal gets done. Maybe this is what Dein was doing.

Spurs have been failing for a lot longer than that and they've done OK in the transfer market.
We're a big club with a huge global fanbase, we've got a big ground, we can pay big salaries, we're in the CL.
If we had competent people doing the negotiations we could be signing some top players.

They don't sign the very top tier of player generally, the other difference is they'll pay whatever it takes which helps a lot, I also think if a club shows it's signing players and trying to improve a player is more likely to look at them in a favourable manner thinking they might actually have ambitions to get some silverware.

Yes we're a big club, but we are seen as a bit of a joke around Europe these days, the team that plays good football but gets beaten as soon as it gets tough, in addition people know we always sell our best players and for the last 8 years really haven't shown much ambition with regards attaining silverware, you only need to hear the manager talk about how we have a very good season getting 4th to see that.

The best players want to win, they don't want to go to a club who come 4th every season and never seem to be able to win any trophies at all.

We signed Cazorla last year who's on the same level as Mata and even chosen over him on their national team. Chelsea didnt do much better than us last year, so you cant use that as an excuse either. For a start Mata wasn't top tier, he was a very good player but hadn't reached top tier level, secondly we signed Cazorla because Malaga have huge debts and had to sell so we went in with our usual low ball offer and they had little choice but to accept (only works with desperate clubs who have no choice). We've got no chance of getting Mata now, he's been playing at a top club performing, he knows he's above us now.

If you told me you believed in Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and Tooth Fairy I wouldn't be entirely surprised to be honest (if you do they are real btw just saying some people don't believe in them, I know right.....how stupid eh I mean big metal things called planes can fly so why can't you have a flying sleigh or a bunny that delivers chocolate eggs  )

Screw what Chelsea did last year, they are light years ahead of us on the football field, they have cabinets stuffed with trophies to back that up.

I personally don't know how you feel about this summer or what has happened over previous summers but to even suggest that Chelsea's best player would move here given our inability to complete even the most routine transfer negotiations beggars belief.

We can't keep reducing the quality in the team and expect to keep finishing above our closest rivals. This year we haven't reduced the quality but have instead reduced the quantity and therefore the cover which means we won't be able to rotate. So we'll likely pick up more key injuries and that effectively reduces the quality. We could squeak another 4th place finish if we get lucky with injuries and suspensions but the margins are razor thin. The spuds will lose Bale but they have brought in five decent enough bodies and that will count in their favour over a long season. If there was no mental aspect to this they'd easily finish above us, but they have a lot of mental baggage to carry and may well bottle it again. Very hard to predict this season.

Of course if we brought in a few stiffs of our own we'd do ourselves a favour but there aren't many decent players available on frees, finding them before the weekend will be very tough.

No, YOU got a free sticker album! Some of us can't afford to get into the ground so we can get our free album. They didn't even post a picture of the free sticker album so we could see it. A few wins (two against a poor side) and they all think it's OK, Wenger is as predictable as you get, I said he'd refer to our mini unbeaten run at the end of last season as proof of our quality and low and behold he has...even though we were pretty sh*t performance wise in that run.

He plays on the wings for Sociedad.

The position is rarely the problem, especially with talented players like Vela or Arshavin. It's either their lack of motivation or application or not fitting into a playing style or system.

The only time this 'Wenger played them out of position' thing has merit is when it's batshit crazy like Bendtner/Ramsey on the right wing or Eboue in central midfield.

1. We only look for special players who are good enough to play for Arsenal
2. We only look at bargain basement buys, ie french players on free transfers, hence Sanogo and possibly Flamini

While I look in envy at Spurs, not only in the players they have signed and the money they have spent, but their efficencey and pro active approach in sealing deals with top quality players imo deserves a round of applauds. On the other side of the tracks, our scouts or lack of them are still looking to find the pub players from Ligue 1 one of the weakest leagues in European football, another french unknown player who gets a massive contract and is absolutley crap. Wenger you cuunt, with all the extra TV money revenue and all the liquid assets of the club, you are telling me it's diificult to sign a marquee player or 3? The days of finding a Vieiria or Anelka are long gone, it's been tried and tested and failed for 8 freaking empty trophy cabinet seasons. I guess the Wenger Rites and the Pro Wengers are happy as they get see to Champions league games. Our rivals play in the Europa League and they can still attract top players. The question I asky myself is do these top players want to player for Arsenal or more importantly a manager? I think not as it appears that Chelsea and Mourinho and now Spurs and AVB are more attrative to players, we are a has been club in the dark ages and off our past glory, we are turning in to another Liverpool although with the greatest respect without any European trophies. We are now 10 years behind Chesl and Spurs.

JonasTC

So you envy sp*rs, who has bought unproven/unknown players from the french, belgian, dutch, italian & brazilian league? But hate on us if we buy the same kind of players from the same leagues... Makes sense :)

But i guess they impressed you with those two 1-0 wins on penalties.

BlindFaith_8
29-08-2013, 07:39 AM
Yeah I am envy and they have bought in top quality players, the team will take a little time to gel together but when they do this Spurs side will finish above Arsenal and possibly challenge for the title. Give them a few a weeks to get to know each other play a few games, they'll soon be firing on ally cylinders. You get 3 points for a win, doesnt matter if you win 10-0 or 1-0 by a penalty so your point has no real creditbility.

Penguin
29-08-2013, 07:48 AM

Munchies
29-08-2013, 07:52 AM
The thing is, our team isn't that bad compared to theirs, it's just that in terms of a squad overall, they're much stronger all over the pitch. One injury to Walcott and we're relying on reserve players. We had a golden opportunity to widen the gap and perhaps challenge the top 2 if we had made 3-4 quality signings like Cesar/Gustavo/Bernard/Jovetic/Higuain .

BlindFaith_8

Wenger has for the past 8 season gone in to the season with the mentality of gaining 4th place or higher, as he knows the the day he starts signing 60 million pounds of players, the board and the fans will expect silverware and I think at his ripe old age of late 60's, he is in a comfort zone and knows how to get 4th place. So he doesnt have to worry about the pressure of winning the EPL or the UCL as he knows and the board knows the squad is not strong enough. They are in tune that yes we have a good squad for UCL and that is all we require. There is no winners mentaility at Arsenal anymore, we simply exist to earn money from UCL, SKY and BT money apart from the scandalous ST pricing. This mindset will not change unless that clamy has been deluded french cuunt is sent packing back to Le France, a vastly much more wealthier man.

The players they've bought in are not world beaters, they're the same types we've been bringing in for years.

What they do have over us though is a good chairman who's sanctioned using all the Bale money to improve their squad in various positions because they've lost a player who carried them. What they've done this summer demonstrates a good understanding of where priorities should lie at a football club.

Sanchez over DiMaria!

You on drugs!!

Sanchez is decent no doubt, but I think he's made to look better than he is playing for Barca.

He was awesome for Chile in the last world cup and there's no Xavi/Iniesta there to make him look good. He's a more direct player than Di Maria and gives more width, which is what we need rather than another CAM on the wing. Di maria plays very central even when he's on the wing - cutting in and playing those lovely through balls. We don't really have anyone who can run at defenders and beat them. Sanchez would put fear in full backs with the ball at his feet.

This convo is futile, best we can hope for is Boa Morte on a free transfer as heard he's been training with Le Arsenal as well.

But i guess they impressed you with those two 1-0 wins on penalties.

Yeah cos Soldado is unproven, Lamela was viewed as the replacement for Totti in Rome he's a winger that scores goals

But yeah I guess peg leg and mercernary are top quality signings that will ensure we challenge for everything.

"This is not a matter of money. I just didn't get on well with the manager and failed to reach an agreement," he said.

"I realise that Marseille didn't really want to keep me and I was not their priority.

"All I can say is that I have always been very honest with the club who boosted my career. I just didn't manage to reach an agreement with them and this is very common in football."

Seems fair enough to me. Marseille manager seemed a cunt.

As for not telling Wenger, he was out of contract. He doesn't have to say shit to anybody. Diarra as we saw before and after he joined is fucking shite. Languishing in the Russian pub league pretty much says it all

You can't compare the two, one is a striker the other is a winger/attacking midfielder so their roles are very different.

Cazorla is more skillful and creative but Soldado scores a lot more goals, if you made them swap roles neither would be particularly good in their new position doing what the other does.

True but he basically screwed us over, Wenger said all along he was confident he would stay. To be fair Flamini has no club so that's not good either and we're the only ones interested and that's only because he's free and we're cheap.

Bullshit tbh, if Madrid wants to sell they will sell on their own term. Why would they wait for Spuds? And if Madrid doesn't have money they just have to ring Santander or any major banks, they will be queuing to loan them transfer cash. Having said that, I bet Madrid haven't finished paying the EUR200 million loan from Santender to finance Kaka and Ronaldo transfer fee few years ago. :coffee:

At the end of last Season, Cashidis took great delight in announcing how much money we have and that we are able to match the wages of even the most money hungry ogres out there (which in my opinion was stupid from a negotiating standpoint). Yet we are now approaching the final weekend of the Transfer Window and not 1p of this has been spent.

We pay ridiculous sums of money (match tickets, shirts, etc), yet Arsene & Co seem to be unwilling to follow suit? Personally, I feel that this is a slap in the face to all loyal Arsenal Fans.
