thats such a bullshit thing from cross. why say world class player, why not jsut say who it is? hes jsut making it up as he has done all summer, hes got nothing right.
thats not to say wenger didnt pull the plug on "this" deal, but it wouldnt have been for a world class player otherwise he would say who it is. it would be for someone decent.

At the very least, you'd think there'd be some credible rumours floating about potential serious targets incoming given how few days there are remaining till the window shuts. During the panic buy of 2011 the rumours about Mertesacker and Arteta had been circulating around for quite a while before we swooped in near the end.
The only hope is that in this day of social media, instant updates, people uploading twitter photos of a player at an airport etc etc, that the club have somehow managed to play a blinder and keep everyone out of the loop in regards to imminent transfers. They are just waiting announce a succession of top top quality transfers any moment today or tomorrow and surprise us and the rest of the footballing world.
That's the hope anyway. :(

Doubtful about it being a WC player but the dithering around by Wenger here doesn't surprise me. He did the same thing allegedly with Sahin last summer - we were ready to finalise it but at the very last second he pulled out and he went to Pool instead. Thank god in hindsight.
I think it was truly an established quality WC player in the mould of a Di Maria or Higuain I don't think even Wenger would do such a thing.

It had to be Higuain. He recently said he wasn't a major target in an interview when it was suggested that the club may not be able to attract star players anymore.

I still love this club but I hate the people who are stealing from within and making a mockery of our club. I drank in a pub in Limerick last summer with some local folks, and do you know what our nickname is in Ireland? 'The Bank of fcukin England' thats what they actually refer to when you mention Arsenal. Hence the reason why Wenger has made over £100 Mill in salary and bonus and transfer commisions in 16 years! For all their signings, they've only signed one that would make it into our first team (Soldado) and even he isn't that much of an upgrade on Giroud, who is a far better all-round player. They're also about to lose a player who was probably worth a third of their points last season. Only one that really looks like a good buy was Eriksen at 10.7M, and Cazorla shits all over him (as will Ramsey this season).
We said we wanted big name players, they take time. At the moment the only player that we've really missed out on is Higuain, and that because the club thought a 'better' player could be brought in (fair enough). Patience lads. Something will happen before the end of the transfer window. As for the Flamini signing, it's a good one for squad depth if he is physically fit - our midfield quality looks quite decent.

Would have almost of the players they have signed this summer at Arsenal with the exception of Soldado as he has zero pace and would be no better than Giroud.....but Chadli would beef up our options on the wing, Lamela is one of the best young wingers around....Paulinho and Capoue would be excellent to beef up our lightweight central midfield...and Eriksen would be a good replacement for Rosicky who will invariably get injured this season.
The only one i wouldn't snap your hand off for is Vlad the Impaler as know nothing about him

Let's not forget it was Giroud's first season in a new league, new team etc, is two years younger and will only improve this season. For all their signings, they've only signed one that would make it into our first team (Soldado) and even he isn't that much of an upgrade on Giroud, who is a far better all-round player. They're also about to lose a player who was probably worth a third of their points last season. Only one that really looks like a good buy was Eriksen at 10.7M, and Cazorla shits all over him (as will Ramsey this season).
We said we wanted big name players, they take time. At the moment the only player that we've really missed out on is Higuain, and that because the club thought a 'better' player could be brought in (fair enough). Patience lads. Something will happen before the end of the transfer window. As for the Flamini signing, it's a good one for squad depth if he is physically fit - our midfield quality looks quite decent.

Apart from the last paragraph I agree with that. I don't think Soldado would be an upgrade on Giroud, in fact I'll bet BIF will outscore him this season from open play. Would take Lamela though in a heartbeat, that's the only one I've actually been pissed off by. Their first team isn't any better, only thing is that they have depth and would be able to cope with injuries unlike us. If they finish above us, this will be the reason why.
We've been patient for long enough, should have really exerted pressure back in July when teams like Liverpool and Spurs were completing signings and we were twiddling our thumbs. It doesn't take 2/3 months to complete a big name transfer especially when we've got the money to back up the offers. It's just been sheer incompetence from Wenger/Gazidis and rightfully they're getting called on it at the moment.

I met her a few times.... first time was when i went to watch the Carling Cup Final (against Chelsea not the Birmingham City one) at the Gooners Pub. I was with my brother and he found it odd in the extreme that she refused to divulge her actual name but as lovely as she was i think she had some trust issues and despite speaking to her regularly for almost two years knew very little about her as a person....even though i went out for a meal with her and other Arsenal message board users on her Birthday.

This weekends game will be tough for me, on the one hand and you can shoot me down for saying this; I want Spurs to win and their new players espicially being a real influence in the game, just to prove Wengers lone theory and sole crusade of not spending and relying on unknown french players being signed for free is not the way forward for a massive club like Arsenal, he has not grasped the idea that in the year 2013 an average player costs 10-15 Mill, but a top player costs in the region of 25-30 Mill and a world class player costs over 50 mill. This is the market and yes the prices are way over inflated but the market dictates and thier is plenty of new found wealth with the EPL clubs from the extra TV revenue. A part of me of course will want Arsenal to win, but it would just make Wengers beliefs even stronger and more resistant to the current open market for top players. I was hoping Fenerbache would do just that but that failed. I know I will get a lot of bollox from the majority and rightly so, I will take the abuse like a man, however I cannot back this team or club while this clueless baffon is still in charge. If he gets his new contract, that will be it for me. I will walk away from this website and the club I used to love with such passion, because he is hell bent in sending this club years behind Chelsea and Spurs and light years behind City and Man Ure. If he leaves I will support this club again and back the team and the new manager 200%, but until the changes have been made, I will stick to my guns and support the teams playing against us, i stand by my princicples.

I keep seeing, the only positive from losing is 'Wenger will spend some money' , well we'll only have roughly 30+ hours of the transfer deadline left. And seeing the Villa result/reaction, I don't think Wenger has woken up from his coma which was induced by having too much money in the bank. We've left it awfully late yet again. Support the team that we're stuck with now. He's gone in May 2014.

I couldnt agree with you more, but if I dont take action in the only way I can, why should I put up and shut up for something I dont believe in? I dont have a ST or Box so i cannot take financial action against the club, even if I did some idiot would snap up the season ticket and box. The problem with most of you is that your all johhny come latley fans who grew up in the Wenger era. I have supported this club since 1979 and have seen managers come and go along with directors and great players and really crap players, I have seen us being humbled and knocked out of cup competitions from lwoer league clubs and watched some of the worst football. I've drank the worst flatest beer ever served at extortiante pricing, but I still loved the club as they invested in the team season after season and looked after the fans, we had a voice. There was an official change of commands and the club was certianly not run from top to bottom by the manager, it was run like a football clubd. Don't you see what this fucking bastard has done to our club? He's become a very wealthy individual stealing from the club, players sales and bungs, taking an astronomical massive salary which is unjustified, higher than a manager who won the league 10+ times? he is pure evil and is selfish and self centered and only thinks of his own financial gain. Fcuk it, I am sticking to my guns, so ban me if you will, but that wont change the way I feel and you lot should all wake up and realise and see whats happening to this once famous grand club. which was the idol of every club chairmen and fans up and down the country.

that bit in bold is such a stupid argument. its total and utter bullshit. yes ive grown up in the wenger era and dont remember arsenal before him, but is that my fault? no it isnt. any fan under the age of about 22-25 is unlikely to remember much before wenger and that is not our fault so dont even use that as an argument taht you have been a fan for longer. its complete bullshit.

I keep seeing, the only positive from losing is 'Wenger will spend some money' , well we'll only have roughly 30+ hours of the transfer deadline left. And seeing the Villa result/reaction, I don't think Wenger has woken up from his coma which was induced by having too much money in the bank. We've left it awfully late yet again. Support the team that we're stuck with now. He's gone in May 2014.
