Kind of the point really. Schurrle was signed in late june, the other 2 were signed in early July. I'm quite pleased with our transfer business so far. Get our stuff sorted early and focus on pre-season. Not sure about all this Rooney stuff tbh. Kinda hope we don't sign him.
not that i really keep an eye out on you guys during pre season, but those three signings havnt really come up, be it in reports or on tv. hence why i forgot them. are they just not playing?
No, what he has said is really quite far from the truth.

Chelsea have signed 3 players this transfer window. AW is categorically wrong.
He has a tendency to talk sh*t to be fair so this comes as no surprise, the whole interview was ridiculous with his usual nonsense claims.

im pretty sure most of us, including you, had forgotten about those signings. i think we can let wenger off this one. plus those players while they migth be good, arent the level of players we need this summer anyway.

They have been playing. It's not mentioned cos none of the signings was a long protracted saga. It was all done quite quickly and we got on with pre-season. I haven't been paying the greatest attention to our pre-season games (i never do tbh as i feel it doesn't tell you much). My hope is that we follow this model for the remainder of the season.

I suppose we'll find out soon enough just how good they are. At the minimum they offer some good squad depth which your club currently lacks in some areas. Schwarzer is a billion miles better than Hilario & Turnbull. As it stands i'm very confident about the upcoming season.

yeah schwarzer is miles better so thats fair enough, that transfer makes sense even it is only for 1 year. (hes 40 isnt he so cant see him playing much longer) but the others just seem like squad fillers to me. their names werent mentioned often last season, like other names are. seems to be me like they could end up going the way of marko marin. decent player, no playing time, not that effectvie

Just the usual tabloid made-up BS. It's a bit odd that you haven't signed anyone of note so far and i honestly think you will sign someone. If the current window closes without another player being signed then that would be a pisstake of fuckoff proportions.
I do think if you get a mauling like the 8-2 at OT a few years back or CL elimination then that would force the issue quite a bit.

I think most of us think we'll buy before the deadline slams shut but it won't be who we want or what we need. Will be players of insufficient quality like a Benayoun or an Arteta.
With you guys getting the manager we all wanted, Chelsea have more or less confirmed their top 4 spot which hasn't been the case last couple of seasons. City will be up there and Moyes influence won't have taken over fully yet so Man utd will be up there. That leaves us, Spuds and Liverpool for 4th and both have strengthened.

Schurrle is meant to be quite good. 24 caps for the Germany and he's only 22. Doesn't sound bad at all plus he's a sizeable lad which won't hurt his chances in the PL. Of course he could flop big time but i think it's quite unlikely.
Either way any signing carries an element of risk however such is life and one must take risks if one wishes to progress.

they could turn out to be brilliant signings and if they do, fair play but in terms of Arsenal, they arent the level of players we need right now hence why im not fussed particually about it. i dont think they will be anything special but if arsenal were looking at those players this summer, id be pissed off

Yeah i see what you mean. Not sure what's going on with your club tbh. It's to the point where i can't even take the piss out of my brother and cousins (all arsenal fans) about the lack of signings anymore.
I think our spot in the top 3 is basically guaranteed unless Roman interferes with JM or sacks him or some other self-inflicted bullshit which we seem to have gotten pretty good at the last few seasons. Right now i think the PL is between us and City with ManUtd comfortably finishing 3rd. Having said that i'd happily settle for 3rd (having scored at least 80+pts) and a respectable showing in the cups (quarter or semi finals appearances).

Not quite sure what's there to be pissed off about. AW and your club have messed things up for themselves. Due to their satisfaction with 4th the perception is that if you want to win stuff you don't go to arsenal. Consequently the sort of players you are talking about won't see arsenal as a place to go to win stuff. To make it worse your wage policy makes no sense (paying crap players & youngsters who haven't done a thing loads but shirking when it comes to paying established players).
Cos of all this i don't think you guys can afford to be as picky as say Bayern or Real.
The biggest problem with your club is that you keep acting like you are some tiny ass club as opposed to the 3rd biggest club in the land. Makes no sense at all.

It is difficult to take the piss out of a club when their own fans do it. We have become little bit laughing stock past few years but ever the optimist that I am, I'm keeping the faith. Surely Wenger and the board will have bought all the yachts there are to buy and might spend on the team.
Agree with the title race. Love for us to challenge even if we don't win it but that ain't happening. Likewise with the cups.

Lars Bender?.....one bid.....one rejection and we go running back to our little hole in the sand. What is it with us......we obviously like a player but think only we know that players value......didn't we put a bid in for Capoue on Jan but got rejected......now I am almost positive that it was more than the figure Cardiff are throwing at his club so if we liked him in January why arent we back in again and taking advantage of the lowered price......ohyeah because we think we are getting Felliani!!!!
Why dont we just get it all bloody over with........hire a couple of temp staff contract fixers and sign every fu#cker we want......why does everything about us be so sodding painful

When I say he's not that good I mean he's not as good as people claim, like I said so far he's had one good season.
He's talented no doubt but I don't rate him as one of the best in the world personally, I think he's been overhyped on the back of one good season (much like Adebayor was once upon a time, though obviously he's a lot better than him) and still has a lot to prove.
Higuain scored 107 goals in 190 games for one of the biggest teams where the pressure is immense, I don't see why Suarez should be rated above him on that basis when he's got just 51 goals in 96 games in a much lower pressure environment, it's just good old English hype again.
Mainly cos Higuain was being supplied by Ronaldo, Ozil etc whilst Suarez was taking it upon himself. Who can blame him, with the likes of downing around.
Please remember that Adebayor was starting ahead of Higuain at Real.
At this point though, its really a moot thing to be arguing about. We lost out on Higuain and we wont be getting Suarez.

if we were in for schurrle you'd be pissed off? have the media made you lose your mind completely? as it stands he is far more complete wide player than anything we current have. hazard will be absolutely dynamite this season after a good first season. then there is mata. then the return of lukaku who was great for west brom. but yeah sure, i'd rather have chamakh, ramsey, arteta and gervinho than any of that lot.

There is always a bottle of something in one's drinks cabinet that defies explanation of how it got there, the bottle of Cinzano Bianco that looks retro until you discover that it is actually from the 1980s or the Bristol Cream or Napoleon Brandy that may have originally been bought as cooking constituents.

Wenger's latest interview is bound to raise a few eyebrows. When asked about the fans' desire for new players to be added to the squad, the Arsenal Manager responded with this:
The fans need to realise that we have already signed Yaya Sanogo who we believe will add quality to our squad. We still have Monreal, Diaby, Vermaelen and Frimpong returning from injury. In a way these are all like new signings. Players like Jack Wilshere and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have matured a little bit and are also like new signings.

tbf you were being abusive to the extent it got uncomfortable. there was little bit venom in what you were saying. so chill, most of us don't agree with each other which is fine, it would be boring if we all agreed wouldn't it? but no point going over the top about it. we all know what the problems are hence why most of us just take the piss out each other now to help time pass by.
Having a really shit weekend, and I reacted when called an effing idiot. Nobody hear knows me, and therfore I take offence when offensive messages are posted at me. I admit I am controversial and say things that may upset some fellow goons, but it's how I feel and this website is the only place I can vent my fustration about AFC.

you dont have to hate wenger you know. what he has done for this club, what he has won has been incredible. i know people who want him out, fair enough, but dont hate him. dont have to call him a cunt because he got 4th.
but going around calling wenger a cunt etc is a bit pathetic given that every arsenal fan will have gloated to high heaven a few years ago because of what wenger did, many peoples great arsenal moments will have happend under wenger. you can want him out, thats fine, but dont call him a cunt etc, its going to piss people off

A few years ago?
It's been 8 years. More than a few years. I have the right to insult any man who harms my club be it from the outside ie ferguson for regularly kicking out butts or the inside ie Wenger who's taking the money with no return.
Ideally he will resign and leave with the little respect he has left but when you're on £7m a year for not doing anything, it's unlikely.
What he did from 96-05 was the stuff of legends. All he's done since then is tarnish his legacy.

Fair comment, but I still think he's clueless piece of shit who has made a fortune from the club, and given fcuk all back. The sad thing is he will be remembered as the manager who failed to win a trophy or honour in a decade and earned more then fergie and mancini and mourinho, still these wengerites must be really happy with 4th place and going to watch champions league football, great. I and the majority fans would like to see us up there with united and city and chels fighting for the title until atleast April and winning a cup or two would be nice as well. What we get fed is how rich the club is, how the uefe fair play will bring us to the forefront and all clubs should follow our business model. Yeah that's nice for a frenchman who has openly admitted being a bayern fan since coming from the french/german border, then we have his puppet who claims to that we have this war chest of riches that we plan to spend every penny. Can we sign Rooney, fuck yeah, we could afford ronaldo, bale and messi at the same time, but we would never buy them as they dont meet our manager criteria, what a fucking joke and fraudaster.

Majority fans still think Wenger is the right person. Go to Arsenal's fb page and you will see many dumbasses there. Our season starts in 11 days time, and the thread is titled Summer transfer speculation and shit! And who have we signed thus far? Forget Suarez, it will never happen in a million years, then Higuain was on our radar but went to napoli for 35 mill but we supposedly bid just the 23 mill. Now lets look down the road at our noisy neighbours. They have signed 3 very good players smashing our highest transfer fee paid to a player. They are saving for a stadium but are still spending money for fun. They have imo a brilliant manager, a much better squad and first 11 than us, they are just about to make 95 million profit for a player we could have signed but we got fcking ramsey instead, thank you Wanker for that. We'd have to pay someone 95 mill to get shot off. So overal Gents a very depressing summer of zero activity and these pro wenger fans still have faith in this cretin? The world is truly going mad and the lunatics are running the asylum.

Makes you wonder with such good players avaiable, our so called great manager puts all his eggs in one basket for one players who A is banned from the first month or two and B is not the soluition to our problems and C it was alway a pipe dream for us to spend 40 mill on a transfer fee and then 20 Mill plus on wages on one player, it's never gonna happen. Then you see the players that we need on talkshite and I just wonder what the fcuk our scouts all over euorope are doing. Thr problem is Stan the cunt has given Wanjer cart blanche to do as he wants and that is where our problems start and finish. I have not been excited about the start of the premiership for about 5 years now, it's the same dross and and droning depressing voice you hear making excuse after excuse. I hate the cunt.

Well you can't turn it around because you just previously admitted it was a reference to Wenger being seen as a paedophile, also I haven't actually accused you of any label, merely saying to stop it. I think with Sanogo and Ginter we go into the new season as clear favourites for the title. And still nothing spent as we can pay for this guy from the money saved on ditching half the squad. PLUS we can sign someone else down the line from the money we'll be saving when we ditch these two players, provided anyone wants them. This is all very prudent.

Most people recognise he's the wrong type of player to sign, we're not after youngsters who aren't proven at this stage and shouldn't be looking at them.

And be honest. With all the talk of Suarez and Higuain and Rooney, nobody once mentioned Ginter, did they? So the smokescreen has been 100% effective. I;d love to be a fly on the wall at city or the chavs today. Boom, they are looking one way and meanwhile Ginter slips right under their noses.

We'll see in 4 weeks. So far everything is as always, some bargain bucket signings that won't have any impact on the team this season. And a whole bunch of promises about big signings but still all words and no action. Plus an embarrassing and amateurish slapstick performance at the negotiating table again. All in all the odds must be pointing to the club fucking the fans up the arse again and cynicism based on 8 years of getting fucked hard is pretty understandable. Maybe this year it will be different... or next, or next, or next...

Just skipping past it to the underlying point and the reason there's a rift between sections of the fans. But winding back, I think it's correct. There's a group of the fans that will continue to put out club PR that flies in the face of the realities. I don't think it's unreasonable to point that out because it's already happening.

No. Hasn't yet, tbh. He's cost up dearly for most of the time he's been here and was an absolute disaster that no one wanted near the team till he finally put in a decent shift last 10 games of last season. Though I wish for his fine form to continue, it's still too early to say he's worked out well, IMO. Give him at least a few games in the 1st half of the season before making such a conviction.

There's no middle ground on the internet of course, but Koscielny was good in his first season, albeit with several instances of growing pains.
He was our best player in his second season.
When he finally displaced Vermaelen and took his rightful place in defence last season, he was our best player once again.

I said he was good in his first season, with mistakes thrown in. So a mixed first season, with signs of promise if you feel that's more accurate.
And to deny he's been very good since then would tell me you (not you in particular) haven't watched many Arsenal matches.
It was good of you to defend those who you feel have been slighted by that sentence once again though. Maybe highlighting the incredible and continued childish distortion of reality by those you always seem honour-bound to stand up for would be more worthwhile, however.

You're deliberately missing his point. What he's saying is come on city!
Koscielny has been hot and cold, overhyped in his 1st season where he made some real calamities, much better at the tail end of last season, let's see how he gets on in this one.
Some seem to think our defensive worries are solved based the end of season run at the end of the season, I'm not convinced we quite often have a good run when we can't win anything anymore but tend to struggle and make plenty of errors when we still have a chance.

I don't feel honour bound to defend anyone, I realise that if anyone says Kos has been shit apart from 10 games is distorting reality. However, at the same time there are those who seem to ignore all the positive contributions Walcott made last season for example, and still claim he is a crap player. Those distortions don't get questioned much on this board, while the distortions of those you're caricaturing do, so no point in me joining in as well.

This Ginter lad actually sounds pretty good, probably means we won't get him.
This from a German on Redcafe:
Hmm, seems that the "Sun" has become a little bit more creative in their name dropping. Can´t see the deal happening, because Ginter seems to be keen to remain at Freiburg for at least one season and will then probably join a bigger German side (I personally hope, that the interest of Dortmund turns out to be concrete).
IF Arsenal manages to land that deal, it would be a major steal by them and also a big improvement. Ginter is in short the biggest CB talent in Germany right now and also a big reason, why Freiburg, a club with one of the smalles budgets in the Bundesliga, managed to finish 5th in the league.
He can also play DM, but his strengths are clearly in the center defense IMO. He has outstanding composure and maturity in his play for a 19 year old. On top of that, his passing range and accuracy are really good. Biggest weakness right now is probably his behaviour in aerial duels. That is a field he needs to work on.
Another good indicator for his huge potential is the "Fritz-Walter-Medaille". The medal is an annual award, which was established in 2005 and rewards clubs for outstanding youth development. It works like Olympic medals and includes four categories (U17/U18/U19/Women), so the best possible outcome for a male player in his youth career would be three gold medals. That scenario never happened until now, though. However, Ginter is one of the two players who managed to win it twice (2012/2013). The second player: Mario Götze (2009/2010).

I want top class players yes, I don't want us to spunk 70-80 million on one player though, it makes no sense when the team is as average as it is. 20-25 million buys you quality which will significantly improve the team.
Hamsik for example is a quality player and wouldn't cost the earth, there's quality out there if you have decent scouts.
Until this summer people were saying we don't need to spend 30-40 million on one player, suddenly it's we have to to buy quality, what BS.

That, essentially is what I want. It should have been our strategy all along.
As it happens, there has been no strategy - if there had have been, we would have ended up with at least two players and a little bit of business to finish before the end of the window.
Had we even just maintained the quality we had in the squad two seasons ago, the signing of Suarez would have been great (pretending for a second that it was ever going to happen).

Stuff like that should stay between the clubs until they can agree a deal or not and then part ways, Arsenal havent done anything wrong, they bid the clause who apperently was 40mil and 1 pound, thats liverpool lacking class not us, their lawyers hustled luis suarez and should have just made the clause 40mil or 41mil.

The £1 was utterly ridiculous coming from a club that is already viewed as the biggest penny pinchers in the history of everything in the whole world ever. The arseholes that run our club are clueless and don't even have the good grace to die. But true enough, listening to Rodgers whinge on every day is boring at best.

I'm not sure Brendan Rodgers can talk about class when he did this to his old club weeks after leaving.

Wrong, the supposed clause (which we now know didn't exist) was any bid over £40 million, we're the ones that bid the extra £1, thus it was a ridiculous bid, as Cripps said usually a club will bid 40.1 million or something like that.

It was classless but not unexpected given that people like Kroenke and Gazidis only understand the financial 'bottom line' and nothing else.
Never thought there would be a time where our own fans were backing the manager of Liverpool over our own club.
Rogers is a twat who openly invited the press to talk about Theo Walcott last summer, so the lipstick wearing cunt can fuck off.
Arsenal have acted with nothing but dignity over this whole affair. It's Liverpool that are making everything public.
Anyone who agrees with Rogers needs to have a word with themselves.

I really don't understand how an offer for a player in private can be classless, whatever it is. Derisory yes but classless? Classless is criticising, nay, denigrating the buying club publically of why a player would want to go there.
40 million and a pound is more insulting than a £35 million offer seemingly.

I'm criticising the owners of our club not the club itself.

Let's be honest here, if we believed a clause existed it's because we've spoken to someone who thought it did, this suggests we went behind Liverpool's back at some stage.
Some might call this tapping up something we've complained about in the past but it seems ok for us to do.

There is plenty to criticise the club about, but the only mouthing off in the press is from Liverpool and the absolutely total hypocracy from Brendan Rodgers.

At that stage we all knew about the clause, or at least we thought we did! What you say is right though, the agent probably had indicated to Arsenal that if you bid that amount, he'd be allowed to leave. Liverpool can't be that naive to insert (or promise to a player apparently) that they could go for a certain amount and that other clubs would not find out about it though. Why would they agree to put it in/promise to the player?
It might have been tapping up (I think he wanted to leave way before we ever bid for him though) but we're talking about the offer itself as being classless.
I always felt the offer was a bit of a p*ss take to be honest, it's the £1 that would really rile someone up (and it has clearly). We decided to go down that route and now Liverpool are annoyed it's no big surprise to me.

Even when you didn't believe we had made it? :ninja:
To be honest, if I had seen that come through a fax machine or whatever, I would have laughed.

I don't care if Liverpool are hypocrites and annoyed. Their player wants to leave - I don't particularly want him, but while we don't know what the clause specifically is, the clause is there because that is what they themselves valued him at. They probably even valued him at less than that as well because these clauses are usually at a premium to the actual valuation.
 Except then!
Yeah they might have thought it was a joke too initially, but when they found out that after turning down their 1st bid we made a 2nd one of £1 more they probably stopped laughing and thought we're a bunch of jokers.

The plain facts are however, that they don't want to sell, the clause doesn't force them to and he's under contract so the ball is in their court. They've said they don't really want to sell and that only a much bigger offer would even make them reconsider.
In addition although he said he wanted to leave he said he wanted to move abroad as well.

These are the same jokers who paid £35m for Andy Carrol don't forget. And stupid money for Stuart Downing. And countless other useless bags of shite.
£35m, to my mind, was a very good bid for a player of Suarez quality. £40m is even better (forget the pound, this is just bollocks anyway, and I very much doubt they care about it, and if they did, they need to get a sense of humour).
He is not worth £50m. So all we are talking about here, is the £1.
I happen to think it's funny as fuck. And they can shove it as far as I'm concerned. The likley senario is that our extra £1 was as a return insult to Liverpool, who showed contempt for a very reasonable bid of £35m.

Even more reason why they think Suarez is worth 50 million surely?
Whether you think he's worth that or not (and I agree with you he's not), he's their player and under contract and they don't want to sell. On that basis they can name their price because they don't want him to go so will be happy either way.

I think what it boils down to is that everyone outside Arsenal feels like the club has it's place and has no business in trying to sign players like this.

Reckon they think our place is in a small town in France somewhere, where things are cheap.

I'm usually quite calm about it all, and I still don't listen to half the bollocks out there anyway.
That said, I really wanted us to show a little bit sharpness early doors as a sign of intent. It's very difficult not to be worried, when you've seen transfer windows slip by without any urgency on our part for the last few years.
Forget the paper guff, and twitter etc, I don't believe it for one second. But I'm still frustrated we haven't added to what seem now a core of decent players, deadwood removed.
